  1. Thanks for the suggestion, totally forgot about system restore. Unfortunately I think you may be right as that did not fix it . Edit: OK now I'm really stumped... I pulled an old sound card from my closet(read: lobotomized) PC and installed it. Booted up and got ready to install drivers and now I have the little speaker icon. Switch wires back to on board sound and it's working again.
  2. I come home from work today to find myself with no sound. After a bit of investigation windows is reading the sound driver as not installed. I've attempted two time to re-install it from the CD and even downloaded the latest drivers from realtec. Every time I install, reboot, and up pops the little balloon "Unknown device CIF Single Chip" I've check the BIOS settings as this is on board sound and it is enabled. Any help is appreciated. Windows XP Asus A8N-SLI mobo on board sound realtec AC'97
  3. I was hoping to avoid this but since the install is fresh and I haven't gone to the trouble of installing any games yet I think this will be the easiest solution. Thanks for all the responses guys
  4. I just re-installed XP Home after losing my hard drive but have a slight problem. I have 2 hard drives, a 10GB(IDE) that is used for backup and the new 500gb(SATA). When installing I chose the 500GB for the install and that seems to be where it installed to. The problem is if i remove the 10gb I get the a "No system disk" error. I can solve this by putting the 10gb back and putting the windows CD in(but not booting to CD just having it in there). After I got everything back up I checked both disks and noticed the following files are on the 10gb. autoexec.bat boot.ini config.sys io.sys msdos.sys ntdetect.com ntldr What I'm wondering is if I can simply copy those files over to the 500gb or if there is something more that needs to be done. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  5. We are having a problem installing unattended updates KB823980, Q817787, and Q932483. All the other updates install fine but with these we get this error message: "WEupdate cannot retrive information needed for setup from database" we are using a batch file that is run from the GuiRunOnce portion of the unattended.txt file. heres what they both look like. 6. During the blue screen phase of XP pro install I get a error message saying banana.ani would't copy. It's not that big of a deal seeing as this is just a file that turns your mouse pointer into a banana and we can skip it easily. This however makes it attended. Is there any way we can tell windows to automatically skip that file?
  7. Thanks for the quick reply, I won't be able to try until tomarrow but I'll let you know how it goes.
  8. Hi I am using the www.unattended.org as a guild for creating WinXP Pro CD's. However instead of having winnt.sif on the CD we want to have unattended.txt on a floppy. We have got the unattended install itself running correctly, but the $OEM$ folder is not copying over. Here is the unattend.txt we are using: ---------- ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=1 MsDosInitiated=0 UnattendedInstall=Yes [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS UnattendSwitch=Yes OemPnPDriversPath="dell\Drivers\Precision 360\Network\Precision 360 & 360N\WinXP" DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="xxxxxxx" EncryptedAdminPassword=No AutoLogon=Yes AutoLogonCount=3 TimeZone=20 OemSkipWelcome=1 OEMSkipRegional=1 [userData] ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx FullName="xxx" OrgName="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" ComputerName=* [Display] BitsPerPel=16 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 [TapiLocation] CountryCode=1 AreaCode=xxx [setupMgr] DistFolder=H:\windist1 DistShare=windist1 [branding] BrandIEUsingUnattended=Yes Home_Page=http:\\www.google.com Search_Page=http:\\www.google.com [Proxy] Proxy_Enable=1 Use_Same_Proxy=1 HTTP_Proxy_Server=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx Proxy_Override=<local> [GuiRunOnce] Command0=C:\Updates\DirectX9-KB819696-x86-ENU Command1=C:\Updates\js56nen Command2=C:\Updates\q330994 Command3=C:\Updates\Q816093_W2K_SP4_X86_EN Command4=C:\Updates\Q817787_XPE_SP2_X86_ENU Command5=C:\Updates\Q832483_xpe_sp2_x86_enu Command6=C:\Updates\Q832894 Command7=C:\Updates\WindowsMedia-Q828026-x86-ENU Command8=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB823182-x86-ENU Command9=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB824105-x86-ENU Command10=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB824146-x86-ENU Command11=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB825119-x86-ENU Command12=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB826939-x86-ENU Command13=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB828028-x86-ENU Command14=C:\Updates\WindowsXP-KB828035-x86-ENU Command15=C:\BASEINST.EXE [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes ---------- And the autoexec.bat thats on the floppy ---------- ECHO OFF A:\SMARTDRV.EXE MSCDEX.EXE /D:BANANA /L:R FORMAT C: /Q R:\I386\WINNT.EXE /U:A:\UNATTEND.TXT /S R:\I386 ---------- The $OEM$ and I386 folders are in the root of the CD rom drive, and there is no scratches on the CD.
