  1. As much as I hate Norton products and I'm probably going to regret saying it, but I have been exposed to Norton Internet Security 2010 over the last few weeks and it has been impressive. It's nowhere near the program that it used to be, but the people that made it probably got fired. The latest Kapersky is lighter on resources than the earlier one, but NIS 2010 is lighter on resources than the latest Kapersky by far. For a family that has 2 or 3 computers and no one in the house that is particularly tech savy, the 3 license version of NIS 2010 is a no brainer in my opinion and I never thought I would say it. Norton hasn't came out of my mouth since at least the late 90's.

Had to add this in! On top of all the Windows 7 stuff the jerk advertised it with a DVD+/-RW 8x Dual Layer and it comes with a plain jane DVD player. This guy is on Ebay and he is from Tampa, FL and he goes by the name "ufgators09". I tried to be very fare with him and even forget about Windows 7 and just swap out the DVD for the one it was advertised with and he will not return any communication that I send. So, BEWARE that this guy is a crook and a rip-off!!!

I found a few references to the build at these locations and some of them look suspicious. Here are the locations in my registry: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\ HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM\Build (had a build date of July 12th, I think) HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\BuildLab - 7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\BuildLabEx - 7600.16385.amd64fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255 HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\BuildLabEx - 7600.16385.amd64fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255 There may have been a couple of more, but this is most of them. Just curious if anyone else has something similar? Thanks

This might be sort of a stupid question, but when I go into registry and it references the Windows 7 Release 6.1.7600.16385. Beside this it also says something to the affect of the version being "RTM". What does this mean?

I knew the back up method had to be from an already activated machine and software. I'm sorry, but I think I used the word loader incorrectly as I definitely would never use anything from Juarez website or origin. It was obtained from an ex coworker which has a Dell M4400 w/Win 7 Ultimate. He was eligible for upgrade on one computer and the package had 3 copies of Win 7 in it. No wonder others are slow at getting there upgrades. It still makes my wonder about the "Service Tag" not being right. I have to try and transfer the warranty somehow.

I ceertainly appreciate all the feedback and let me supply you with some more information. The "COA" sticker states that it came with Windows Vista Busines 32-bit and he did supply me with the OEM copy of Windows Vista Business 32-bit. Here is a quote from the advertisement where I purchased this computer. "You're bidding on a Dell Precision M4400 laptop computer. It's in very good condition - I used it a few times and then decided I prefer my MacBook. It has a fresh installation of Windows 7 Professional installed on it and is ready to go - you won't need to install anything to get it going. It also comes with a Windows Vista Business Edition installation DVD and the charger. I've listed the specifications below. It was over $1600 new, even now if you look on Dell's site you'll be hard-pressed to find one with a similar configuration for less than $1500. My loss is your gain! Thanks for looking!" The other problem that I am having is thers is no sticker on the bottom of this laptop that gives me the "Service Tag" or "Express Service Code". I entered the bios and retrieved the "Service Tag" from there, but the Dell website will not take it. It states that it is invalid or something to that effect. The version of Windows 7 given through system information is "6.1.7600.16385" Was needing the "Service Tag" because some things are not working like the "Card Reader" ans a couple of other things. Is there any other way to retrieve the "Service Tag"? I used the automated program from Dell website and it said that it was unable to retrieve or find the "Service Tag". It has been flashed up to thhe A15 bios version Is there a way to copy the operating system back off of the "C" drive. I'm doubtful about this one. With Windows 7 can't you backup the activation, so that you don't have to keep reactivating if you need to re-install operating system? The "Original Install Date" was 10/22/09 03:10:50am

The original OEM operating system was Vista. He said that Windows 7 was an eligible upgrade for the computer, but I think that's a false statement because I believe it was originally purchased before June/July 26th, 2009. That making it ineligble for upgrade and I'm not sure, but have they finally starting sending out the upgrades yet? Seems like I saw where there was some "chapped butts" about the delay. I'll run the script shortly and see what I get back. Then post results for you and I certainly appreciate the help. If I could confirm if it is a "pirated" copy. I might have a smoking gun to back after him with. I would rather just get it running because I'm wanting to do training in AutoCAD, so that I can hopefully find a job and I don't need this hassle. I have two teenagers to keep up with and now it looks like I have purchased a computer from a poor excuse of a human being. If I can't get it running by some type of patch or an existing key. Not sure what it meant by MAK key? What are my purchase options since I do not have an actual dvd of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit? It appears that Microsoft has really stirred the pot up well with their new pricing versus what version you have or want. Quite honestly I don't understand it. Thanks again for you very prompt and direct help and please feel free to pm me if that's possible or you can email directly to me at travelingman007@gmail.com if needed.

    Windows 7

I just recently purchased a Dell laptop and it was advertised as having Windows 7 Professional. I received computer and it has Windows 7 Professional - Build 7600, but it is not activated. I was sent the "Product Key", but no disc. When I try to activate I get a message that it is the default key, but it needs the MAK key. Person I purchased it from is avoiding me as it was a long distance purchase. Does anyone know of a way to activate? It is a Dell M4400 laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I thought it would be a "OEM" version, which used to not need activation. Is Windows 7 "OEM" completely different than say Windows XP "OEM" as far as no activation needed? Thanks ahead of time for any help!!
