  1. OK PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Seems that it was my external usb hardrive that was causing the problem. My main system drive is named D: my usb drive is named C: I just noticed when Sp2 was unpacking it was unpacking to a directory on the C: drive (guess this is natural for it to do so) but this is not my system drive.....so i unplugged the usb drive so it was only left with the option to unpack to D! Guess this must have confused the install procedure!! Seems quite simple when i look at it now i should have picked up on that earlier Anyway thanks a lot to all you guys who took the time to reply and offer your help....appreciate it, if someone in the future has the same problem maybe this will help them out
  2. all my program files and windows files are on my D: drive which is the main drive
  3. ok tried the vbs file......still no luck....i appreciate you guys helping me with this problem...its so frustrating
  4. i have also tried installing with the /n option too....still no luck how do i retrieve the vbs file you posted?
  5. ive run chkdsk on both drives and tried installing with system restore turned off on both drives.still no luck.....i have noticed this though this is described as "SPECIFIES THE AMOUNT OF FREE SPACE ON THE DISK" seeing as it it says 0MB for both of my drives.could this be the problem?? and if so how do i rectify it?
  6. My windows install is also on drive D:..ive tried directing the uninstall files to drive C: which as at least 50 GB free but still no luck, i will try the things you mentioned above...thankyou
  7. Thanks for the welcome And thanks for the replies i tried the winrar solution first but no joy...i also cleaned up disk space etc.still no joy.i will have a look at the slipstream option.im not so good with computers though lol.thanks again guys
  8. I have recently had to format my hard drive & re install XP Home edition......i also downloaded sp2 from microsoft.com> However when trying to install sp2 it gets so far as to check for space for uninstall files then it stops and i get this box pop up I have at least 4 gigs free on the drive im installing too.ive also tried it on a removable hard drive with at least 50 gigs free & get the same message regardless of where i try and install it...i have browsed the xp forum and did find some information on using the xpsp2.exe /n method but this did not solve the problem. I'm at my wits end with this.thanks for taking the time to read this....i have tried installing from both downloaded file & cd
