I found on another forum advice to install Direct X (from Microsoft). It helped me finally fix my sound and modem (I don't need modem, so I did bother with it); installation was initiated without my help and did not require any tricks!

Thanks, johntsouris, great job! I used Vista for a couple of monthers and just hate it. I am quite unhappy with HP also, since they made it so difficult to find all the drivers. For some reason audio driver did not work for me I guess in the same way as for ckyalliance07.
