Command prompt for folders anywhere in explorer

thumbup.gif Thank you mate ! You did me a service there. May you also be helped in your further endeavours. -
Hello. In Windows XP there is a power tweak that I can't find for Windows 2000. Can somebody tell me how to make a cmd, bat or reg file out of the procedure listed below so that I can open a command window wherever I am in the explorer? (preferably a reg file) 1. In Windows Explorer, open the Tools » Folder Options menu item. 2. Select the File Types tab. 3. Press the letter ‘n’ on your keyboard to scroll to the N/A section. 4. Select the entry labeled Folder. 5. Click the Advanced button. 6. Click the New button. 7. In the action field, type “Command Prompt” (without the quotes). 8. In the application field, type “cmd.exe” (without the quotes). 9. Save all your changes (click OK on each dialog) and exit the Folder Options dialog. Once I perform thos steps, I'm able to right click a folder and select the “Command Prompt” menu item to open a command window. That's what I want in my unattended W2K install, but I don't know how to automate this.

Thanks guys but it hasn't helped yet... I've been busy with other stuff. My W2K has all the latest service packs installed. I have no idea why it's not working right now. I've downloaded Ryan's version, I've also downloaded any other versions of 2.0 that I could find but well... no chance... Since nothing worked, I decided to write my own RunOnceEx.cmd since nLite wouldn't install, because I need an install routine and can't wait until someone comes up with some bright idea why Net Framework won't install on my PC.

The OS that I'm TRYING to install it onto is Windows 2000...

Hello. I tried installing nlite on a computer that just had its OS installed. nlite tells me that I need Dotnetfx installed in order to function properly, so I download Dotnetfx and try to install it, only it doesn't install just telling me that the following error occured during setup: The installation package or a needed file could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it. I JUST DOWNLOADED THE F***** THING FROM MS!!! I went home to my computer which has no Internet connection and tried it there... it doesn't work there either. I came back to work and read the information about Dotnetfx and found out that it needs internet explorer 5.01 or higher which I didn't have on my PC. So, I get IE 6.0 installed on my computer at work and the thing still doesn't work. I thought maybe it has something to do with the extreme firewall that I have on my PC at work and decided to take Internet Explorer 6.0 and dotnetfx along with nlite to my PC at home. Installing Internet Explorer on a PC with no internet connection seems to be something that only insiders know how to do. I searched the internet for information and found out how to download the files using the ie6setup.exe /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d:1 /s:""#E" parameter, but then I drove all the way home with the files on my USB stick, tried to install using the downloaded setup file and guess what... the thing tells me that it can't download the components. GREAT JOB MS!!!! I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me how to install these files on my browser that has NO internet connection.

no LANMANNT.BMP anymore hmm... I don't have server 2008... and I don't know whether that functions like Vista or not... so this is only a guess... do you have a file called winload.exe.mui? If so, load that into resource hacker.
-
My experience is that if you edit the boot.ini of your installation of windows and add the switch /NOGUI you get a black screen, but if something happens that provokes some windows error state, you will also not be able to see what chkdisk does or any other process does in the background that you usually see because the GUI is switched off. Therefore what I do is edit the bitmap in the ntoskrnl.exe with resource hacker, resedit or any of the other resource hackers available on the internet.

Thanks guys... About cleaning up the HFCABs... will do, but why are those DirectX 9.0c files and Daemon4122-lite-x86.cab ignored? Is there any way to still slipstream it into the installation or am I forced to get the .exe version of Daemon lite and add it to the GUIRunOnce in Winnt.sif? Yes, I've tried removing the expert/win files, but that hasn't helped. I just replaced some rather ugly windows bitmaps. I originally wanted to replace the boot logo in the ntoskrnl.exe, but for some reason that never works even though I followed all the instructions to the letter that I found anywhere on the internet... (tried all sorts of resource editors: Resedit, Resource Hacker etc.) - I have no idea why that doesn't work because I did it with Win 2000 all the time and never had any problems and had also done it successfully before I added service pack 3 to Win XP. Of course I HFslipped the whole thing once without changing the bootlogo and then used the ntoskrnl.exe that was in my sourcess folder for changing the bootlogo and then put that in the expert/win file and re-slipstreamed the whole thing again, but it just didn't work. So much for personalizing windows for my friend, so I just ended taking that file out of the expert/win and dropped the idea. Has anyone had any success in doing that with a slipstreamed service pack 3? Oh well, sorry... that must be off topic. Don't bother to answer that here... I'm starting to get the impression that the problem might be an HP driver inf that the installation tries to access on its own for the hardware on the notebook. I'll try the install without any extra drivers other than the SATA that I need at bootup this evening and tell you the results.

Get some rewritable CD's. I've tried attaching log files here before and found out that it doesn't work. It would probably help if you simply copied the [sourceDiskFiles] entries in your txtsetup.sif in here or at least scrutinized them and compared them against the files that you have. I had the same error message when I originally used Fred Vorck's winnt.sif and forgot that to remove the entry for universal SATA driver when I decided to no longer use it. If you have added any extra driver entries to your TXTSETUP.SIF, scrutinize them for syntax errors, wrong paths or misspelling. Sometimes even upper case letters where lower case letters should be or vice versa can cause problems or spaces where they shouldn't be. There's a hell of a lot of information on the Txtsetup.sif file here, just do a search for it in this forum.

While doing an unattended install for XP for my friend, I get a popup message that just says 1155: and "OK" as an option. It stops at this point and only proceeds if you click on the "OK". WTF????? Has anyone had this before and knows how to get rid of it? Hi TommyP Because I am slipstreaming XP with service pack 3 for my friend, I used the latest test version... hfslip-1.7.6rc5.cmd I noticed that there is no mention (on the very first display page of HFSLIP) of slipstreaming Windows XP service pack 3 but rather, only of XP service pack 2... just wanted to point that out to you.

fed income! thanks for the info mate is there any way to shorten that "I have read the instructions" part? After the fifteenth time it does get quite annoying. Maybe they could program HFSlip so that when it's run once and notices that someone has typed that sentence in on this date, that they only have to type yes or no until the date changes. Better yet... if someone knows what they are doing to make it part of the answer.ini.

Greetings from the cows in the alps If you're really lazy like us... there's a freeware version of installrite available. It's a nifty little program that will help you out if you don't have the time to learn all the switches and stuff to do it manually. The downside of that program is that it does bloat your installation program quite a bit sometimes.

Got rid of the superfluous service packs. The problem still persists. I noticed that my SVCPack.inf doesn't have everything that the svcpack folder in my slipstreamed source has. Perhaps it's just me, but looking at your change log is a bit of an eyesore too. Anyway... I ended up changing it into a table for me to have a better overview. Just in case you want to have a look at it and maybe even add it to your page in place of the change log that you have now, I've attached it to this forum entry. Service_Pack_Change_Log.htm

Alright, I thought that HFSlip just ignored the older service packs, because sometimes I read that it doesn't copy any of the files to the slipstreamed source. The reason why I added an overview of my directories is because I reckon that something else might be wrong. but thanks for the insight mate *ripping the scab off an Augustiner Dunkel*

This topic is addressed in various places in this forum, maybe I've missed something, but I haven't the solution to this dilemma. It might also be something that could be added to the FAQ or instructions... This is the problem: Error: The signature for Windows 2000 Professional Setup is invalid. The error code is 800b0003. The form specified for the subject is not one supported or known by the trust provider. *** Fatal Error: Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. What are the possible causes of this error? Attached is an overview of my HFSLIP directory. If any other info is needed... (except of course my reg numbers) let me know... I'll post it. mystuff.txt

At the end of the HFSlip routine the message appears: Warning: creating filesystem that does not conform to ISO-9660. Warning: creating filesystem with (nonstandard) Joliet extensions but without (standard) Rock Ridge extensions. I've seen the ISO-9660 filesystem somewhere in my cd toasting software and as far as I can remember had to do with how long the file names were - (the old DOS names could only have 8 letters). This message makes me wonder if it wouldn't be better to create a filesystem with standard "Rock Ridge" extensions... but how is that configured in HFSlip???

Slipstreaming drivers directly into i386 in W2k
Dislocated Time replied to Dislocated Time's topic in HFSLIP
Is there a list somewhere that shows which updates replace other updates or do I have to go cruising through all sorts of forum entries to find that info? The problem being, I've collected updates in a folder throughout time and don't know which of those really are superfluous or might even sabotage other updates. Are the lists that the_guy uses really all or might there be some updates that he missed? -

Hi, hmmm... ok... here's some critique... I've tried your instructions but found out that the ;uniata section is not in the inf files of the KEEPIE6.zip that I downloaded. Tried a second download, but turns out that it's just not in there, either that or I'm blind or the search function hides it from me... I added the uniata entries of your VorcksSp5files.zip to the keepie6.zip files, but couldn't upload it for other people to use it because it's bigger than 200k. What I want to do is two separate installs on my non-notebook PC: one with IE and the other without. I want to install W2K without IE on my notebook. BTW: German companies are horrible when it comes down to customer service. They finally sent me a replacement notebook and the flatscreen was scratched! Finding drivers for newer Notebooks or even newer PCs for W2K is a nightmare because everyone is jumping on Microsoft's bandwagon and trying to force people to buy Vista or WinXP. I haven't found much information about how to edit the inf files of an XP driver so that it also works for W2K, so I have to go through the task of finding a company that still offers drivers for W2K before getting that notebook model which isn't very easy these days. -

Thank you so much for those hints FDV. Before I could try that out, I just ended up taking my notebook back to the dealer I bought it from. The HD was giving me a hard time. The dealer told me that I'd get a new one in a few days, so I'll try it out then. -

FDV: thx for the ref. I tried integrating Uniata.sys exactly as instructed, but something went wrong. I remember having put the extracted files of the uniata.sys in the HFEXPERT/DRIVERS folder, so I guess that might have been my mistake. I'll retry it again today though. When I booted, the windows setup only told me that my inf file was incorrect, so I just copied the originals back over the ones that I had changed and gave up. In any case I didn't use your files (FDV) because I originally didn't want to trash the Internet Explorer for the reason that a lot of sites want you to use the IE. For example, I wanted to check my PC for trojans by using an online scan and the site tells you it's only available for the IE. If I'd find a way to circumvent something like that, I'd actually rather like to get rid of IE right away, because I'm definitely not happy with it. One other thing that's been itching me. I'm trying to install a notebook and according to Oleg, you can get rid of a few extra files in the original setup. The problem is, that it's a dual processor notebook that I'm installing and his little proggie knocks out all the multiprocessor drivers. If I'd know which files are only specifically for uniprocessor setups, I could remove those, but there is no reference as to which files are for what purpose, so I'm left completely in the dark on that. If anyone knows where to get info on the original setup files, I'd appreciate it a lot. -

Got that Opera switch, thx. It'll take me a while until I figure AutoIt out. Old dogs do learn new tricks, but just not as fast as the kiddies. In the mean time, if anyone has any more hints, may the force (of your fingers and keyboard) be with you. The Force? just helped me figure out that the H.264 codec was already part of the K-lite codec pack, so one of my hurdles already dropped without me lifting a finger. CoreAVC just got ditched. : Now if the Force would just blow the Chinese out of Tibet... and help me with my other hurdles. Dislocated Time
