  1. Last two times Ive reformated Ive had to call microsoft to activate xp. Seems after installing a new hard drive, memory, burner and doing a few reformats my key is no longer valid. To get to the point how can install my streamlined xp without having to reactivate over the phone? I know I need wpa.dbl. Is there anything else I need? How do I use the volume id tool? I really dont like having to call microsuck and be treated rudely to activate my legal copy of xp.
  2. Most software and hardware are dropping support for 9x. So it doesnt make a whole lot of sense going back. You can always dual boot like myself. That way you can use 98 for your old games and software. I feel your pain when you talk about xp being slow. Im running it on a p3 with 256 meg. Do what the others said. Turn theming off and put in more memory. It wont be quite so sluggish then. Another option is to go to windows 2000 or wait another year or so and reactos will most likely be beta.
  3. I figured it would be a difficult task. Right now I dont have a lot of time so that is the biggest factor. I know my copy of me comes with IE 5.5, but I think some of the updates may require 6. Im not sure about that though. I basically already made a install cd with the updates in another folder like you said. Would be nice though If I didnt have to install them manually.
  4. I would like to add the latest drivers and a service pack I found on the board to my install cd. Im not sure exactly how to go about this though. I think I can add the drivers to msbatch.inf. How would i go about adding the service pack? I saw where someone on the board made an unattended boot cd for 98. I dont think its compatible with me though.
  5. Could someone point me to where I might be able to find the right files. Im trying to make an install cd from the restore cd's I recieved with my computer. Actually I've already made an install cd but the setup.exe wont let me do a custom install. The only way I can get it to install to a partition and not wipe my whole drive is to initialize it in dos. And even then when I execute setup.exe it will not let me do a custom install. Looking at the zero responses maybe this is not possible on the forum. Thanks
  6. Does anyone have setup.exe, robocopy.exe, winme.bat, oemsetup.bin, oemsetup.exe? It would be a great help if someone had these, especially microsofts setup.exe. Thanks in advance
