My slowest reply ever.... I totally forgot about this thread. shell32.dll folder contains 33.ico (full recycle bin), but 32.ico (empty) is missing.

I've noticed that the thumbnail view for XP often shows 16px icons even though the .ico file contains larger versions. Your question about icon order got me thinking if this is the same problem. I downloaded Icon Sushi (free) and loaded an .ico file contain icons from 16x16 to 128x128. This is one of the icons that XP displays as 16x16 in thumbnail view. According to Icon Sushi, the 16px version is last in the list. I tried moving the 128px version to the bottom and resaving, and sure enough thumbnail view now shows a nice large icon. Alpha channels are still not shown properly however.. Anyway, I think you might be able to fix your problem with Icon Sushi.

I wanted to have 128px versions of My Computer, My Documents & Recycle Bin for my RocktDock toolbar. I found the first two in in the mycomput.dll and mydocs.dll folders, but i can't find the 128px version of the recycle bin icon. Can someone help me out? TIA

I know this is an old post, but i just stumbled upon it. Regarding the + indicator: IIRC, this is because XP does not properly support .cur files with alpha channels greater than 1 bit. They look great, but the + indicator doesn't work properly. Usually the shortcut indicator (ie CTRL-Shift Drag) does not work either, seems to depend on the system. I hadn't noticed the recycle bin red X not working, but it makes sense that it would fail as well. I thought MS would fix this in SP1. Then I thought they'd get it in SP2. Then .........
