  1. I use an old Brother MFC-7400c for scanning and PaperPort 7. (I have no need to use the machine for a printer, fax, etc., but the scanning is fast and excellent.) I recently upgraded to XP Pro from Win98SE, and I find that Brother has no drivers for XP - they say drivers are included with the XP Pro OS. Well, those drivers suck. The default is "color picture" and "8-1/2x14 size" and "100 dpi." I can find no way to change the default. With each letter-size page I scan, I have to reset to 8-1/2x11 from a menu of dozens of choices. Then I also have to change to "black & white," and then to 600 dpi - which is the maximum resolution allowed...and the scan quality at 600 dpi is very inferior to the 600 dpi scan quality when I could use the Brother drivers (with 98se). When I used Win98se, the Brother drivers for scanning were wonderful. Each time I selected a different size, resolution, whether it was color or B&W, etc., those selections became the default until I made other selections. I am extremely unhappy with the XP Pro bundled drivers for the Brother MFC-7400c. Does anyone have any suggestions? Even if there was a way to change the defaults of the XP drivers, it would be a little better than nothing. Thanks for any help!
