  1. I agree Conan , however, I would say give it a shot. The worst that could happen is you have a lot of headaches and follow our wisdom after you see what transitioning is like. No matter what you should make a backup. Upgrades are not always a smooth transition and you could make a huge mistake and loose everything anyway. As suggested earlier, partitioning is great. Use Partition Magic and partition your HDD if it isn't already. This is a quick easy that option. Be aware that you could corrupt the disk on a fresh install if you install improperly and you could loose your partitions. Nothing is better then a hard copy backup on CD or Tape. Microsoft has posted a huge amount of stuff on the web for saving user settings for their products, and other manufactures do as well. So look there to see what you need to backup. I hope this helps.
  2. TO CHANGE YOUR CLOCK TO HIDE THE DAY: Try looking here: To change the way your computer displays the time Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel. On the Regional Options tab, under Standards and formats, click Customize. On the Time tab, specify any changes you want to make. TO SHOW THE DAY: If your computer is a member of a domain, you will not be able to see the date and Day as sicribed here because your clock is set by your server.
  3. Been busy. So does this help? What do you think could cause this problem?
  4. I would like people to take a look at the screen shot above and see if they have ever crossed this scenario befor. Please get back to me anyone with ideas on the issue discussed here. I still haven't found a solution.
  5. Neither of these work. I have tried repetedly. If I add a wallpaper, it just shifts the paper over to the right. The Web isn't enable.
  6. I tried right clicking on it for the speed menu, but there was no response. I have also looked at the desktop settings to see if I had enable some kind of Web active desktop. But that wasn't it either. Please advise?
  7. On my desktop is a bar on the left side of the background. It is much lilke when I open the my documents folder in XP. It has expandable headed sections called Tasks, Other Places and details. It is called a common tasks bar. It is what shows a thumbnail and properties of files when you hover over an icon. This bar appears on my desktop and I cannot seem to get rid of it. Help
  8. BAH --- I need your help. The common tasks bar that accompanies the explore window is on my desktop. How do I get rid of it? I also need to know how to configure the user profiles to allow users on my domain to edit their desktop. For some reason the DESKTOP is disabled and grayed out. What to do! Any ideas
  9. Well I did it! I did contact Microsoft, and they were stumped. I think I got a novice tech. The reason XP and 2000 computers which are a part of a 2000 server domain with Active Directory hang during startup and logon is related to issues in the DNS settings. In my case the server was not properly setup with DNS. In fact it wasn't even installed. (When and who removed it is yet to be determined) This service and domain specific settings are required for Active Directory to run properly. Now that DNS is installed, setup on the server and the workstations have a new primary DNS name, all is working smoothly. If anyone has this issue, just follow the directions at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q260371 (Q260371) You may need to reference other articles, but this will definately get you started. Thank you for your help Xperties. I know if I hadn't stumbled accross this article, I would still be lost. Next time I will contact BAH first. Maybe this would not have taken so long to fix.
  10. Well it looks like I have a long list of NEtlogon failures. I havea feeling this is realated to my DNS configurations. Does anyone have advice?
  11. I work on a domain of 15 users with one Win 2k Advanced server. I use active directory with my domain, and I am experiencing trouble with three workstations that have windows XP installed. They all worked fine for a short time, but one by one each XP workstation now hangs at the network setting and loading computer settingswhen it starts up. Then when the user procedes to login, the login hangs at applying computer settings and applying personal settings. This happens every time. I have looked at all of the logs in the event viewer and they are of no help. I haven't changed software to have caused this issue. Specifically the hang can last from 5 minutes up to 20. No kidding! Any ideas?
