  1. I'm having a similar problem and I don't know whats up. I run Vista and the machine downstairs runs XP Pro. When I try and access the computer downstairs through "Network" on the start menu, it asks for a user name or password, and I have no idea why.
  2. I've got Windows XP x64 and Vista Ultimate (x86) on my machine. I've had both installed for a few months now and was mainly using XP, but I have finally started to love using Vista more and more, and so it is my preferred choice when I start my machine. I have ONE problem with Vista though which is really, really winding me up, and it does not occur in Windows XP. Whenever someone sends me a file on Windows Live Messenger (8.1) or if I send them one, it takes forever - the time it takes is stupidly long, especially when you consider it will take about 1 minute for someone to send me a 100K JPG file. On XP, this would literally take seconds. I'm on 512k broadband, running through a router. UPNP is also enabled in both OS', though my router does not officially support this. However, I wouldn't have thought it could possibly be a problem with UPNP, because like I have already said, file transfers on MSN are very quick when using Windows XP on the same machine. It's really getting on my nerves. It's bad enough with JPEGs, but you can imagine how bad it is if someone wants to send me a 10MB ZIP file - I'll be sitting here for hours!! The rest of the internet is fine on Vista - webpages load quickly, and I get 50-60K/sec downloads as I do on XP. I run Zone Alarm on Vista too by the way... Can anyone offer any possible advice? It's a mystery to me. Cheers
