  1. I can not seem to figure out how to provide a network share that requires no authorization/authentication. [NTFS] The network share in question is set up as hidden. For the steps I have taken a login prompt always displays. Steps I have tried: 1)Set permission for the share to ANONYMOUS LOGON. 1a)Change Local Security Settings: Local Policy=>Security Options} Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously [define directory] 2)Set permission for the share to Everyone 2a)Change Local Security Settings: Local Policy=>Security Options} Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users 3)Enable the Guest account 3a)Set permission for the share to Guest
  2. I have a WinXP Pro machine networked with another computer [WinXp Pro]. At the moment I do not have any cdr's to burn the Win2k3 ISO. Would it be possible to set up a network share containing the I386 folder and then access it from the other PC to execute the winnt.exe or winnt32.exe to commence installation of Win2k3 server? I am wondering after the initial installation that the reboot would cause a problem reconnecting to the resources in order to complete installation. Also, another possible concern would be whether the network share would need to be available through anonymous login. It seems as though this should be simple enough to do, my research has led to insufficient information. Other information points to RIS. Thanks for any suggestions.
  3. I have determined this is not a hardware related issue. The old generic cd drive is picky about certain disks, I tried several different cds (linux, different builds of XP) and certain ones worked while others didn't. Rather weird because all the disks were burned with the same utility (Nero) on the exact same media (Imation).
  4. Sick of trial and error. Looking for a Hex editor (preferably freeware) that has the ability to search and replace a whole hex string. For example, I need to replace a color palette and would like to be able to replace the string representing the color palette with my own. Any suggestions? Thanks
  5. Ok, to make this short and concise, my scenario: nLited a xp cd with sp2 and hotfixes and installed it on an older computer containing mostly generic hardware. I decided to repeat the process but also employ all the functionality nLite offers. Tested it in VMware and booted the disc off my current pc. Problem: attempt the boot the cd in old machine, the disc is recognized and an attempt is made to read it but ultimately fails. Any ideas, this disc just won't boot on an old generic cdrom in a system based on a via chipset - Gigabyte mainboard with an AMD Duron. A firmware update for the cdrom or a bios update for the mainboard seem to be my only guesses but I would like to know what other people might reckon. Thankyou
