  1. Hi YZOwl, ive started a problem thread over at http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=100578 so any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  2. Hi all, first of all let me say this is a great forum and already feel comfortable with the environment and hopefully find great solutions to some of the issues ive been having of late with M$ software. Let me explain my companies setup... we are running 5 servers which all replicate to 1 of the 5 using DFS. Each site has 2 cisco routers connected (one for the users internet access and the other for the VPN which links the servers together). Up till now everything has been working well with only the addition of SP2 being installed and thats when i started noticing the problem. Each of the servers have a domain terminal service log in (for remote management - different for each server) and each of them i can log in perfectly.... my bizaar issue is this.....when i test for connectivity between my servers there should be 3 methods of success. The first is to ping the IP address of each and that works fine. The second is to ping their domain names (FQDN) and that works perfectly also....the problem is the WINS name (NetBIOS) which causes the issues.....3 of the 4 servers respond with cant locate the computer at all....and for the 4th the message is even more crazy....the system believe the server WINS name to be an IP of a machine located in the wrong network (ie im in network A pinging a server in Network B and its telling me the ip address is in Network A and cant locate it). Whats going on? I understand going back to my MCSE days that the WINS names or NetBios names can only work within the LAN and not accross a WAN....im not sure if this is correct but the way i found out about the error is that some users from different sites have complained that when logging in remotely from home to the main server to gain emails if their inbox's are found at another server they cant receive their mailbox. Initially the servers with exchange were working with the main server looking up the user name account and email when they logged in and automatically connected them to the correct inbox based at the correct server. (Let me know if im loosing you all) I just want to know how to clear this entry of the IP address thats not correct for one of the servers and why the name resolutions of the servers cant be pinged. I have removed incorrect entries within DNS and DHCP. Any help appreciated......or email me at kyriaco2000@hotmail.com Thanks again
  3. Saying a big Hi to everyone on the board and that i hope to gain additional knowledge on certain M$ topics which haunt and harras me constantly when running my various networks All the best Keri IT Network Engineer
