Super Sam

i just got a brand newsony vaio laptop, with directx 10, 2gb ram, 200gb hd, 1.8ghz dual cpu, and vista hp. I wanted to play Call of Duty 2, but when I finished installing it, at first it would just stop responding, then I ran it in SP-2 compatibility mode, and it gave me a DirectX error. Is this because i have DirectX 10, and it needs DirectX 9.0c (it may not, I don't know), or is it another problem?
