  1. i take it u were refering to the NT 4 source code leaked correct? or would the W2K source code help as well may i ask? also i have corrected my speling mistake on 'source code' from 'course code'
  2. sorry to come up again (even though i shouldnt ) but i have thread through the thread again, and even though it has been mentioned that NT 3.1 and newer support multiprocessors, it still wouldnt be compatible with near related versions of Windows 9x? i mean like, for example, if u had like the source code to NT 4 at least, may i ask to anyone if that would help at all? also, unlike other projects of Windows 98 around here, as they focus on aving all the updates and features of Windows ME implanted, this one however focuses on the core itself where it is ideal to get through first before going on other things that seems simpler. thoroughly researching Windows 98, it can be stripped down alot, so much it can go down to as little as 8MB and can be run on a Flash USB with immediate on and off power. these are from the creators of 98SELite. good stuff i assume. if it can be stripped down that much, i am imagining how close htey might have gotten to the core but didnt mess around with it maybe due to laws and so on. thats all i have to say for now, again i would really appreciate it if someone can help me answer these, and of course will get bcak to you. this can happen! just need to look for the right people and place (here as well). Excellent. P.S. dont you wish that back in 2004 when the source code of Windows 2000 and NT 4 leaked in the internet was instead Windows 98 perhaps?
  3. may i ask, what has happened precisely to the user wanting to make this project? do you reckon that he can acces the core of the operating system himself may i ask as well?
  4. well, i dontmean to be out of topic, but i thought it was worth mentioning this, but coming here to visit this forum, how funy was it that i saw threads titled 'Windows 98 Third Edition?' and another Windows 98 project, aiming to have new features and so on? one of them was very much willing to acess the core and some sort of modifying to it. has anyone saw these threads may i ask?
  5. hello everyone, its me, now, im sorry if i just came in after so long, but i didnt know when or where to come in, after this thorough discussion between you lot. dont u start EVER thining that im laughing my head off because of this, but this is knowleging myself and many other Windows 98 people out there! including my friends as well, as htey are very intrigued to know if something like this was possible, i also wanting to try and convince them to join here, also to prove i am not joking around. i now know for a fact, that Windows 98 is based on DOS, and running on that, and that NT itself doesnt have DOs, but more like an emulation, like XP, but its processes are very much closer to 9x than XP itself. maybe i should have made this thread in the Unofficial service pack forum, trying to find a way to move this place a well. from what u lot are saying, it is still possible to make such a thing, but yes, effort wil need to be made into it, and i see not alot are willing to take that challenge, unless someone got the source code to Windows 98, then people can start messing around with it. unless, another theory, is that if there was a DOS that can do multitasking or multiprocesing, then Windows 98 on top of that, is another possible way to make the OS see dual core. u lot may thingk im a dumb a**, but no, just no, by making htis thread isnt ridiculous, we are acknowledging as to wats right and not, and this has given me more of an idea on what to do, this isnt the end here. i am very aware there are still loads of people who hasmt came by this and probably knows what to do. i did mention donations as well didnt i? thats all im going to say right now, need to start finishing bulding my new system.
  6. infact, Windows 98 is more or less the GUI that runs on a DOS-based layer, so assuming now correctly i assume, Windows 98 does run on top of DOS. couldnt have said it better myself, this is where i mentioned where i will clearly need to look for someone to use NT4 as the basis for making Windows98 see multicores. and i just purely believe that i dont see the need to make ay virtualness on the operating systemf or the hardware, cause its not solely for one person's need, but for everyone can do and dont need to do this and that. whereas it will be done already in the core itself and thus where all the power lays.
  7. including that, can i safely say that i will need to be looking for a person that is willing or would like to volenteer, to use Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and implementing its multicore support to Microsoft Windows 98(Second Edition) inorder to make that operating system to see 2 cores in a dual core processor?
  8. im really glad that u have came to mention on this thread, as u are a genius with your packs, cant wait to use them when i finalised my system, but with 98MP10, isnt that basically trying to get WMP10 on Win98? i was also hoping that u could help me with this as well, regarding with that pack, is there a way to use the files of NT4 (assuming being the easiet and simpliest) to try and make Win98(SE) see both cores and run on both simustanteously? just like recent OS's?
  9. i found this, i hope this helps abit with memory wise on what win98 is capable of, so it gives potential on what the operating system can do: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=333688
  10. thanks, that is just one opinion and there are lots of peoploe who still lives on Windows 98. im sure those who u say have moved on wont mind at all for this operating system as they did live with it before and im sure there wasnt a problem with that either. love live Microsoft Windows 98 (Second Edition)! anyone might be wiling to do so, im not doing it only for me u know, new technology goes through everyone here, and Win98 needs t support it. anyone?
  11. well having Win98SE with all the paches and stuff, will make it modern enough, and thanksd for letting me know about NT4 and onwards can support (and recognise?) dual core processors, now all we need to do is find someone who is willing to take up the project on doing so, and we will give all the info and experiments on what htat person needs, like teasting the OS and which ones will see multicore cpus and many other things. i will take your words on NT4 been the easiest and hte simplest, also not to forget to mention, all we need from that operating system is the support of mulitcore processors. what do you think? and is anyone wiling to take it up?
  12. i would assume using a VM would only make Win98 run on another machine on specs it was made for and not using the ful potential of the actual specs on the computer itself. and about Win NT, technically, Win2000 and XP are NT but with different names and designs based off from hte hybrid kernals from Win98 and afterwards. not to forget to mention Vista also. so if ur saying NT4, maybe it can start from NT4 and work itself way up to XP perhaps? anyone?
  13. well if i can, i would move this thread, but i am glad i have posts from both of you. it is not impossible, but yes i assume it is hard, htat is why i am asking what needs to be done in order for it to happen. cause if 98SE2ME can be done, maybe a 98SE2XP or 2000pro can be done? having to know that they recognise multiple cores, still having the little system demand from 98Se as usual. anyone may i ask?
  14. anyone at all may i ask? would b e something nice as well for the anniversary in 2 days time where Microsoft ceased support for Windows 98, as well as ME to add. apprantly, as we should all know, Windows 98 was the first operating system to use Windows Driver Model, with hardware producers are not developing drivers optimized for Windows 98, the drivers written to WDM standards are compatible with Windows 98–based systems. that is a very nice put up for Win98, and deserves more. can anyone tell me if it is possible to make the operating system recognise multiple Cores in processors?
  15. As already mentioned in the Topic description, i am hoping htis would be a nice place wher we can all gather and see the possibilities on making the most famous and loved operating system, run on some of today's advance technology, i.e. a processor which helps us all delightly that contains 2 cores, thus it being a Dual Core processor. now ith amny of the projects here, like the Autopatcher, the 98SE2ME, and the KernalEX which has to dow ith XP itself (which that can recognize 2 cores itself) makes me wonder, why not make this the next thing? surethere will be some who will disagree and as well as disregard it, but because of hte operating system's less system demand, it does make it furthermore effiencent, but either way, heavy duty programs that run on XP to run on 98 will still be abit of a slowdown. one of course i will like to add is 'Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5', which a professional editing program for video and can recognize multicore cpus, but having to wonder if it was placed in a Win98 machine with dual core but not having the OS recognize it, i will assume the application wont recognize itself at all. knowing that Premiere Pro is a beef eater in its own way, having it on Win98 wil help a tiny bit, but having Win98 seeing 2 cores and making the applications to see this as well, will more or less be heaven for us all! thats one example in detail that can expand on. so really, may i ask, is it possible whatsoever? i have heard there has to be something like a Kernal rewrite or modification, and was also hoping on those who can volenteer or wanting to make this a reality, maybe we can all sort out a small donation, hahahaha. so please someone tell me on those who is interested and expanding the knowlege on what can be done instead of it just been dissed like that or completely. thats all i can think of at the moment, but more will come ever so soon. i would really appreciate it if u can respond to this in any way. i will look forward to your replies. thanks very much. "Long Live Microsoft Windows 98(Second Edition)!!!"
  16. wow...ummm okay then, that is a great compliment there, but when stating that, are u refering to when having Win98Se installed? or WinXPSP2 on? and yes, technically, those are the things i tend to do, and dont forget 3D modelling, although i havent got a 8800 GTS yet. from that when, what is better? Win98SE or XPSP2 then may i ask?
  17. i like Toyota myself, especially the Toyota 2000GT convertible. okay, this is what i am going to do, i am going to install Windows 98SE, i do not own a geniune copy at the moment, but i ont think it will make a difference unlike newer OS's when 'back-up' also, because its a 500GB SATA hard drive, can someome tell me quickly what to do to get around this? and just one straight answer, once installing Win98SE o my system, even though it will not recognize the 2 cores, how wil it compare to WinXP in speed and performance (as well as aplications that supports Multi Core) on my computer? once doing that, i will take Eck's advice on the work around on the memory, if i can remember it.
  18. well im sorry if i was of an annoyance, but remember, im new here, an am having difficulties looking for answers to my questions, thus im asking them here. i am this close to finishing my pc build, and i still wondering to what OS to use, as much i like to use Win98SE, and XP with Dual-Core support. i wish wish there was something like 98SE2ME2/2000 or 98SE2ME2XP. something like thar. i would even donate if such product came out here. you just have to get Win98 running on Dual Core, or what would be funny is to ask Microsoft and create a petition to now have the ource code for 98 itself if me asking about the whole memory hing is annoying, can u pleease direct me to the right place please?
  19. well i never ever wanted to run 64bit OS's, as they are not for me whatsoevver. and that i tend to have 4GB of RAM later on, how will that be on Windows 98SE? according to the downsides of Win98 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_98#Disadvantages it was orignally made for to run 2-4GB of RAM. so, even with my specs and to be overcloked too, they will not match hte same speed to Win98 when those running on XP then? i am really confused to which to go over!
  20. well with the specs that i have mentioned, will i get a fast performance on XP than on win98SE? or probably on par? or Win98SE being faster may i ask?
  21. well, i wasnt 'going there' whatsoever, i dont know where that came from, i was intentionally being nice, as i assume though. i have tried going round here to look for possible answers and using the search as well, but i hardly find anything direct to my questions. that is why i would rather prefer to ask them seperately, and to concentrate on them individually, thus i would gain better knowlege and a better performance on my almost complete PC with windows 98SE. and about my Motherboard, remember, it is an Asus P5b Deluxe, and wen u say it wont utilize all hte resources on it, does that mean that i wont gain hte full power of it? as well as when coming to 'limiting' the memory? my mobo can take upto 8GB of RAM. what do you think? does that help may i ask? P.S. i hear XP again!
  22. well, i definatly will not buy a computer off a computer store, cause i now already have all my parts and i am actually building it as i speak. i have of course taken your advice and have been doing some searching, but i will admit that i am having difficulty, i even went to windows tips and tweaks and made a thread there about win98Se on 2GB of RAM, and yet not replies, probably im asking in the wrong place. i to think i was being sarcastic, i think we are all, right? please prove me correct or wrong. and right now, i am checking out mdgx.com, ought to have 150pages of crack for the PC Excellent. i am hearing alot of XP here, as it is tempting me very much to install it instead of windows 98SE, i want the power in which XP can recognize and can be passed onto 98SE. also, i hear of Limiting as well, does that mean that when limiting memory, u are like pushig it down to the fact where the operating system can recognize it or something? Remember....i have 2GB of RAM! going on 4GB...and thats what i am starting with, fresh.
  23. I dont know if this is the right place, but i was doing some searching i cannot find the exact place that i want to install Microsoft Windows 98SE on 2GB of RAM. i have been buyinh parts for my new pc and i want to install win98SE on it, as much that i love to. i have hard there is a workaround for it, and i was hoping someone here can help me on it. my RAM is: Crucial Technology Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (#300105326661) and wanting to overclock them as well. again, i would really appreciate it if anyone can help me on this, or can direct me where to go for this kind of hting, as i assume u cannot install Win98Se directly onto the computer as it wont even load at all? cause its limit is 512MB? please, givew me all that i need to know and what to do. thansk very much.
  24. please do remember that i do intend to overclock the RAM, so would i need to make othe adjustments in Sysedit? and also with wha u have noted me with that, with those numbers, are tose the only ones that will help me bypass it? or will it help me use the full power of the RAM itself? thus, where do you get them? again, also remember, i do intend to overclock my CPU, and wanting to gain a good overclock. any changes now may i ask? as much that i love windows 98, i will admit, the only thing that is holding me back for abit, is the fact that it will not recognise the 2 Cores in my CPU. wow, really? i know you are on the sarcastic term i assume, but will it really be flying fast?? as in computer wise hehe.
