  1. I doubt it coz the issues started right after applying sp1. Have now enabled the second ide/sata controller on my board (i think it's a chip from via) and let it control my drive in ide mode (i'm suspecting ahci as the culprit; strange that pre-sp1 it worked all fine, though). My first attempt at copying large amounts of files from a dvd to my disk after the change went smoothly. *fingers crossed*
  2. It started with the dvd-rw drive (Optiarc AD-7173S) disappearing and an exclamation mark in the device manager. Reinstalling the drive provided only short term relief (drive disappearing again). I've read about other people with similar issues and a fix that requires deleting some filters in the registry but i didn't have those entries. After plugging the drive into another SATA port it stopped disappearing but it's still giving me problems. For instance when copying files from a dvd to the disk the copy process sometimes just stops and the drive stops spinning, i then have to cancel the process which takes ages (untill the copy window closes). I haven't tried burning yet, don't wanna end up with a lot of ruined medias. Anyone who can help my? Pretty please...
  3. Like the title says, when trying to install vanilla Vista (without SP1) it seems to work like it always has but when trying to install Vista with integrated SP1 (official MS version, not self-made) soon i get the following message: "Required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing". If anything i thought SP1 would add drivers, not remove them. How is this possible? Bug?
  4. First of all, thanks for offering your help. Prior to doing anything i have a few question (some may sound stupid, no pro here): 1. Does this debugging tool, you know, slow down the system, take up resources (is it adviced to uninstall it afterwards)? 2. When exactly should i press CTRL + SCROLL LOCK, after it hangs (how can it respond if the system hangs?) or just before? 3. I don't have a c:\windows\minidump folder, why's that? Shouldn't there be one?
  5. Vista still seems to be in beta... Everytime i insert a media in the DVD drive Vista just hangs. WTF?! Found out that reinstalling the IDE driver helps, untill the next reboot, then it stops working again. My motherboard is a Biostar tForce 965PT (VIA ide controler), latest bios installed, drivers are the ones the OS installed. My system is Windows Vista x64 with latest patches. Anyone any idea how to fix this? Btw, in XP it works fine.
