  1. ok just swapped one problem for another! can get it to work if I disable XP's own firewall but then as soon as i logon to the net next the whole computer just crashes - causes a fatal error! (and it did this at least 5 times) to fix it i put the firewall back and here I am! BTW works fine with Zonelarm pro running and sygate PF - both allow file transfer. And another thing!!! after that error it told me that most of my icons were unused and started the wizard to remove them - even though i used them all today! Anyone got a clue how to decipher what the message it tries to send to Micro$lut means? Cos I never send em! Reckon they must get millions a day! grrrrrrr - gonna end up usin win2k pro at this rate Dodge sorry for ranting!
  2. Hi Guys Bet u've heard this 1 b4 but I can't seem to send or receive files via windows messenger. I know its a security risk but only I use this PC and only accept files from close friends and colleagues. I am running WinXP Home with the latest release of messenger. Think it may be something to do with XP firewall but didn't want to turn it off - anyway of setting the configuration to allow these (and preferrably to scan with my virus checker). Any ideas much appreciated Dodger
  3. ok update, uninstalled office 2000 pro (or premium as it calls itself) using install CD, re-booted, then reinstalled. Flawlessly! Still get same problem - program (word, excel, powerpoint) starts opens wizard and is stable, any attempt to open new document and program closes after about a second. I'm soooo baffled. Got rescue disks for my PC - mebbe just reformat and reinstall everything is the way to go? Seems a bit drastic to me? Anyone got OfficeXP? and a VLK (joke! - well ish!) Dodger
  4. No I got a new pc with win XP pre-installed then installed office 2000 and this worked fine. I installed the SP1 and SP2 by going to the Microsoft update website and since then kaput! There are no error notices when it shuts down and I have looked around but can't find any error logs or scripts anywhere. I did notice that when I was installing the service packs that it gave an error notice that one of the .tmp files couild not be updated as it had previously been up-dated (how I don't know!) but didn't think much of it at the time as the install seemed to proceed without any further hitch. 5. Hiya I'm running MSOffice 2000 in Win XP Home and have recently installed the SP1 and SP2 patches. Since doing this MS Word and Excel no longer work, I can open the program and even a blank document comes up but within seconds the program shuts down. The WinXP is preinstalled on my new pc and office 2000 is a registered version from work (totally legit ). I downloaded the patches from MS update. Any ideas? Cheers Dodger
