  1. I totally missed that search button actually I came up with close to none because of my quoted query. I needed a topic that had in it that exact error message. I figured thats how I search for errors from the get go I might as well try it on this forum. I missed the search button and only saw the google search option I'll see if that makes a difference.
  2. Help on where to search? All I see is a generic google search up top that it doesn't feel like the forum on any page it takes me to. IE I can't post a new question to help get clearification. I searched for ["the file txtsetup.oem could not be found" usb floppy] this didn't show anything I would consider relevant. I didn't come across the post you mentioned even. Also like I said any page from the search did not come up as a forum page that I could post to. I see from the nlite page a lot of posts on here :-)
  3. While that method might work (I'll have to try it out sometime) My co worker came up with an alternate method that others might find useful. (like if you don't have a usb floppy) there is a program called Nlite http://www.nliteos.com/ that he used to insert the scsi drivers onto the windows iso and burned the cd with those drivers. I was impressed that nlite was able to produce a bootable iso image with the drivers. He used another program to copy the original win2k3r2 cd into an iso. Many programs can do this. I'd get it using dd in linux. I suggest people try the other way. Given that I am not 100% sure as to the legitimacy of the method I mention. But if all else fails I offer another way. The reason I say this is that this is modifying the windows install disk.(we use to do this all the time when installing old MS OSs) Microsoft might have an issue with this now. But I really didn't find the other way till after I installed it this way. Nlite itself should be legal; the question is if what it produces is.
  4. I am trying to install win2k3r2 on some hp dl140 g3 servers with LSI sas raid controllers. The machines come with driver cd's but win2k3r2 only supports installing drivers using a floppy. This machine doesn't have a floppy or a floppy controller. When I tryed using extra drivers it complained about not having a floppy. I tried using a sony usb floppy (I had to restart for windows to see it) now windows first asks to insert a floppy with the drivers so I do that then windows gives the error message "the file txtsetup.oem could not be found" (it is on the root of the floppy filesystem) ugg why is windows installer still in the dark ages and not supporting anything other than a floppy to install drivers. Is there a way to install that I am missing? Maybe I need to do a network install? Are there docs on how to do this?
  5. Ok after getting perl working in IIS now I have a more difficult task. I have a perl script that works in linux that just isn't working in windows. Here is the script #!c:\perl\bin\perl.exe use WWW::Mechanize; my $m = WWW::Mechanize->new(); my $someimage="imagelocation.jpg"; $m->get($someimage); my $data = $m->content; my $contenttype=$m->ct; print "Content-type: " . $contenttype . "\n\n"; print $data; I installed www::mechanize using activeperl's configuration If anyone wants steps I'll post them. Its pretty easy though. Anyways when I point to my script the image is all messed up. Like I said this script works flawlessly in linux. My next step is to try out the cygwin version of perl and see if that fixes things. I'll have to install the www::mechanize for it too. For it I think I have to use the cpan install method Ah ha further testing shows it to be activeperl. I slightly modified my script to not print the Content stuff and tested it on the commandline like so "./image.pl > image.jpg" using Active perl the image is messed up using cygwin's perl its A OK so now I need to figure out how to use cygwin's perl in IIS. It was easy enough I just had to change the 2 places I mentioned from c:\perl\bin\perl.exe to c:\cygwin\bin\perl.exe But I learned I didn't even have to do that. by default activeperl prints \r\n for all \n to prevent this I have to tell it to print in binarymode so I added the line binmode(stdout); before the print lines and everything works good.
  6. I would like to use perl with iis. I installed activeperl and made sure it works. I can double click on a perl script and it runs. Now I'm trying to learn IIS. But I am really not sure where to start. I could install apache and use it but I think I should take the time and learn IIS as well. Here is what I know Under "Application Configuration" under "Mappings" tab there is an entry [.pl C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe "%s" %s GET, HEAD, POST] that active perl added I added a file test.pl to the c:\inetpub\wwwroot directory but when I point a web browser at it is says it is not found any other htm files I add to the directory work just fine. my test.pl looks as follows #!c:\perl\bin\perl.exe print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; print "Hello world"; and when executed looks as expected Content-type: text/html Hello World It doesn't appear to be executing from IIS I'm not sure where I need to put the perl scripts actually. In apache I know I needed them in the cgi-bin directory. Ok I figured it out :-) In the "Web Service Extentions" area I found the "Perl CGI Extention" was prohibited I just changed that to Allowed and walla everything works now :-)
  7. Do you need more than 2 people logged at any one time? If not no need for terminal server. Another thing is Licenses are kept on https://eopen.microsoft.com you can request for all licenses your company owns to them they will ask you to fax them information and then they can send all the licensing for your company.
  8. Did you check the firewall settings? even if it says you need to enable firewall when going into the firewall configuration your firewall may be on. If it says this go ahead and click ok then disable the firewall and press ok.
  9. deleting RDP-Tcp and creating it as something else seems to have worked
  10. I keep trying all I can with "Terminal Services configuration" I deleted RDP-Tcp and tryed and recreate it in many different ways but it seems no matter what I do I don't see it in "Terminal Services Manager"
  11. Tried that already it didn't seem to work thanks for the suggestion Maybe after messing with that and rebooting it might start working looking here http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserve...3.mspx?mfr=true Oh and for others step one means open mmc in the file menu click add remove/snapin click add click group policy object editor. I tried enabling it there but with the same effect.
  12. Maybe there is a way to reinstall terminal services? Where would I find that?
  13. I have a windows 2003 server that a previous administrator had installed "Terminal Server" on it. We don't have terminal server licenses. So I uninstalled terminal server to be like the rest of my servers and just enabled remote desktop. When I restarted my server I was no longer able to remote desktop to it. I know for a fact I don't need terminal server to remote desktop to a server none of the others have it installed and they work just fine. I only need at most 2 connections and thats what it is suppose to allow by default. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks.
  14. It stopped working on exchange 2003 even; don't you just love Microsoft. Maybe that is why it is undocumented because it only works part of the time. Masquerade was the correct option for now I will just replace the FQDN which is the incorrect way according to MS but they don't leave me with any options.
  15. As for file replication The easiest would be to have a redundant disk array with redundant fiber switches. We have an EMC disk array at my work. But if one server goes down the mapped drives will be disconnected your users would need to match them to the alternate file server. This starts to get in the realm of clustering.
  16. This "redundancy/fail-over solution. ie. If this server fails, the entire load should get transfered to another server automatically" describes a cluster.
  17. Clustering wouldn't work so good after thinking about it, cause windows doesn't just use DNS names. They do their own thing.
  18. As long as the DNS service is added to the domain it will automatically replicate as for dhcp you will have to replicate that yourself there may be a export import you could use. Let me clearify on adding the DNS service to the Domain. You have to open up the DNS manager and add the domain it will ask if you want to join it to AD say yes and wala its replicated.
  19. It says Win32 support was added. So it may support 32 bit windows
  20. I was reading about this not too long ago I think the latest realease supports windows so you might want to take a look. http://www.backhand.org/wackamole/
  21. As MS always does they cchanged it for exchange 2007
  22. I just wanted to let people know the major advantages to free forums. I'd much rather pay for something like this than pay for a forum that I need to pay to post. Why? Well let me explain. I've been using linux now since 1995 and I learned more on the forums then I ever did in classes on it. In forums you can search for people that described your question as close as you can. If you find similar posts and you still aren't answered you can post and ask for clarification. There is no better form of documentation than free forums. Microsoft owes who ever set this forum up more then they can imagine. This also makes it so that people that know a lot but aren't willing to pay a place to show what they know. Giving them a platform for higher opportunities. I'm not saying everyone should pay but I will donate happily for others to post for free.
  23. Found how to make exchange display a different name. In exchange 2003 under the Exchange system manager Administrative Groups->First Administrative Group->Servers->SERVERNAME->Protocals->SMTP right click on Default SMTP Virtual Server select properties click on deliveries tab click on Advanced down at the bottom The name in Masquerade domain is the name that exchange will claim it is. If left blank it will use its windows name that you gave the machine. to verify I send mail to helocheck@cbl.abuseat.org which will fail and give a discriptive email failure like the following <MASQUERADED_NAME #5.5.0 smtp;550 Your HELO name for IP address 123.45.67.89 was DNS_REGISTERED_NAME_FOR_IP_ADDRESS> So it is recommended that you put the DNS_REGISTERED_NAME_FOR_IP_ADDRESS in the "Masquerade domain" entry area. WOW why was this so hard to find and no documentation on it. Well now there is thanks to free forums.
  24. That is a common misconception on Firefox. Firefox also has some vulnerabilities. I hate all web browsers they all have issues. just be careful about what you click on and things will work alright. Actually it sounds as though something might be opening something using your default web browser. So no matter what you use you will have the issue until you disable that program. Do you have any file sharing programs? or downloaded warez apps this sounds like something like that. Oh and by the way I had a friend show me that you can do windows updates with firefox so if you really wanted you could get rid of IE but I recommend against it because it should also be your file browser. I do everything from cmd with dir to list and cd to go to different folders call me weird but it helps when scripting. Just about everything I do is scriptable. You could install cyqwin and use lynx to browse but thats going too far for me. Ascii art (a command line method of displaying pictures using best fit algorithms to fit ascii characters together to make a picture) is missing too much of the pictures for me. Microsoft should have never developed a gui os for a server. If they wanted a gui they should have developed a php interface over ssl to the servers. I still feel servers should be headless. They just perpetuated bad program design.
