  1. Hello,

    I have the following situation.

I have created an base Windows XP Pro SP3 image on a HP DC5700 (ICH 8 Sata Controller)

When I sysprep this and make an image of it and want to restore it to a HP DC5800 (ICH 9 Sata Controller) it finds new hardware (Sata controller). The driver is in the image so i have to install it by hand.

How can i make this automatically.

Here is my sysprep file :

  2. His problem is that he picked x64 for DISM; Imagex and oscdimg when he's using an 32bit OS

    OS architecture: x86
    ImageX Path: C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\amd64\imagex.exe
    Dism Path Selected
    Dism Path: C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\amd64\Servicing\Dism.exe
    Oscdimg Path Selected
    oscdimg Path: C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\amd64\oscdimg.exe

    On the first page:

    4. When choosing the path for ImageX and DISM, make sure you choose the same exe architecture (x86 or amd64) as your Windows.
eg when using Windows 7 x64 choose the ImageX located in amd64 inside the WAIK installation

This was indeed the issue. Thanks for the help. Great tool. Is this from the same developer as nLite?

I want to make an unattended installation of Win7 64 bit on a 32 bit laptop. Could this be the problem ?

  4. Hello,

I want to create a batch file that can check on IP range to do something.

    Simple example

    If ip range = 192.168.10.1 - 192.168.10.255 then install1.bat

    If ip range = 192.168.20.1 - 192.168.20.255 then install2.bat

    If ip range = 192.168.30.1 - 192.168.30.255 then install3.bat

    Is this possible ?

  5. Hello,

I have an issue which I want to know if it is possible. I have five different computers:

    HP D330 (ATA)

    HP DC5000 (ATA)

    HP DC5100 (SATA)

    HP DC5700 (SATA)

    HP DC5800 (SATA)

I have made an Windows XP installation CD (nLite) with all the drivers for the different machines (including sata drivers). I have installed this image to the HPD330. I then made an image using ZENWorks and restored it on the DC5800. When I start the DC5800 it comes in a loop while booting XP. When I disable automatich reboot after error it comes with an BSOD with an 0x0000007b error. This means it has problems with it controller driver. I have tried sysprep but it gives the same error.

Is it posible to make one image for all the type computers the customer has, or do I have to make two images. One for ATA enabled computers and one for SATA enabled computers. I thought the drivers of the SATA controller are already in the installation of Windows XP it should work on a SATA enabled machine.

Does any one have any experience with this kind of installation ?

  6. Hi,

I created an unattended installation of Windows XP with SP3. When the PC boots for the first time it comes with an Welcome to Microsoft Windows screen, and asking me for Windows update settings. The setting of Windows Update in nLite is default. Is this normal for SP3 ? Because when I use SP2 it works perfectly. What could be wrong ?

  7. Hello,

I have found this script :

    @echo Off
title MakeCab all files in current directory
    FOR %%L IN (*.*) DO makecab %%L /L /D CompressionType=LZX /D CompressionMemory=21 ".\Cab"
    exit

It makes al files named name.dl_ and so on.

How can I make this run also in subdirectories ?

  8. Here's the scenario:

I have a lab of computers that all need to print. They all print to the same print queue hosted on a Windows Server 2003 box, which is deployed through Group Policy.

The issue is that they need to pause the print job in the queue until they are ready to actually print it out, at which point they will walk over to the print station, choose their job, and then hit print.

I've got everything all setup, except that I can't get the jobs to automatically pause in the queue... they either go straight through or fail. And I if i just pause the whole queue, then no jobs go through, paused or not.

So is there any way to have the job automatically pause itself in the spool queue until the user un-pauses it?

I'm looking for the same kind of solution. Does anyone know ?

  9. Hi,

I want to change the icon of my ramdrive r: to a ramdrive icon but it doesn't seem to work.

    I have used this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\R\DefaultIcon\Default C:\Ramdrive.ico

What I'm I doing wrong

  10. This is what I use in my registry.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\R\DefaultIcon]

    @="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\shell32.dll,12"

Could it be an AR Ram Drive issue ?

    EDIT :

I have found the problem. AR Ram Drive doesn't make a volume of some kind. I think that's why it doesn't have an custom icon.

  11. Hi,

I'm trying to change the drive icon for my AR Ram Drive. I have used the registry method but it still shows a harddrive icon. I also have rebuild the icon cache but that also didn't work. What I'm I doing wrong ? I'm using it on a nLite created Windows XP installation with RyanVM update packs.

    Kind regards,

    John
