Thanks Cluberti, You commented on the first 5 lines. I edited that part out.. Sorry it only adds confusion. My real question is on down at the bottom. This has to be a simple question.... Please, whoever reads this, I can and have read quite a bit on the Microsoft Web Sites. I am just confused on one little issue. I don't understand how the CLIENTS are (physically) accessing the server(s). Once I understand that, all the rest will make sense to me. Later today...... OK.. I just phoned a guy in my local computer club. The answer seems to be that the clients connect through the Internet to the server(s). That is what I needed to know.

Just below that is a link 'Branch Office Demo'. There is a video that runs about 14 minutes. Please play the video, and be aware towards the end where he says the London server fails, but the user(s) in London will still be able to access their files via the Redmond server. How are the London user(s) going to physically get past a failed server unless they are using an internet connection in the first place? I think he just assumes we know he is talking about WEB servers. But he does NOT say that. Could someone please clarify this for me?

Thanks GL, I didn't know about that site.. I ran the file through it.. No problems detected. BTW: It does not come show up when I run an antivirus program, but shows up to Spybot Search and Destroy, which I assumed was finding malware, bots, etc... I still think it is a false positive.. I am still running Windows 98 SE on one PC. Spybot S&D comes up with what it calls Win32.Agent.awz and refers to a file named C:\windows\system\filvdisk.vxd I am thinking this is a false positive. I have had no symptoms at all. I am behind a hardware firewall and I am pretty careful where I surf. I did a Google search against filvdisk.vxd and only had one hit. Anyone else have this file on their PC or have any info on what this file is for? Thanks, Oldtechie

Hi.. My handle is Techie2. I stumbled onto this site by accident and surely am glad I did. Have been messing with computers since 1981. CP/M was the system of choice. I think MS/DOS was somewhat an offshoot of CPM. All before WINDOWS. The "PC" was not yet out. "Normal people" did not have computers. Built my first system from a kit. Hard drives were not affordable or compatible, that I know of. 5.25" floppy disk drives were about $500 each.. (Not joking!) If you had 64K of memory, you had a great system. Microprocessors were 8-bit hummers @ maybe 1-MHZ clock speed.. Yes, 1 Megahertz, not gigahertz. Ok.. so much for the history lesson. ------ I repair PCs for friends and relatives for free. I am retired & spend a lot of hours in my shop with PCs & some electronic repairs. I have "extra" older PCs to use to try software you guys are developing here. The only downside is that they are a little slow. (like me) ----- I am here to learn more about unattended installs, auto-patching etc. So glad to see there is still interest in Windows 98SE, as well as the newer systems. Have been playing with some of the software already.. Love it!! I had told my wife awhile back that I surely wish I had a way to update old Windows 98SE OFFLINE. I thought M$ had stopped allowing updates for Win_98 from their website when they quit supporting Win98 last June. Realized just a few days ago that a newly installed systems can still be patched, but I like to do it offline. I have (most) of the patches saved to CD. And was doing the same with Win_2K and XP... It was becoming a big pain to try to keep up with all those patches. Then weed out the old outdated ones. Only recently discovered (Offline)auto-patching.. What a blessing! ----- Thanks to you good folks who are working on these projects and for making them available for free. This is just too good to be true! How's that for an intro? Cheers
