    STOP C000007B

I have the same problem as Beppe in that I get the following error when booting my Sony Vaio laptop running XP. STOP C000007B {BAD IMAGE} THE APP OR DLL \??\C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SFCFILES.DLL IS NOT A VALID WINDOWS IMAGE PLEACE CHECK THIS AGAINST YOUR INSTALLATION DISKETTE. I wasn't installing anything, but my system has been very erratic lately, crashing at will and shutting down programs for no apparent reason. Ran Chkdsk dozens of times and it usually found some bad sectors that it seemed to fix. Right up until it would crash again, and find some more. Fortunately, due to this downward spiral, I was able to backup all key files from my hard drive. Then yesterday, my computer would not boot at all. I just get the above error and the infamous BSOD. Interestingly, it does run Chkdsk and find no problems. So do I have a bad hard drive, or just a corrupted Win XP? Is there a way I can salvage the system without a complete reinstall? I have done some investigation and have heard some that are able to bypass or replace the sfcfiles.dll. Any advice on how to do this when I can boot the drive would be appreciated. Thanks! Tito
