Can someone recommend a wireless router for me and if a pci card areciver or a usb adapter is a better choice. I Just would like to use a laptop remotely in the house fro my maim pc. TIA

Fyi Anyone interested, this was a hardware problem anything that I mentioned was coincidental to it. Both of the liteons though in age were apart both started to fail simultaneousy. The plextors read all the disk that became unreadable.

This a new one on me. I have two liteon dvd burners. I had a Chrome browser crash (win32k.sys) blue screen and this was shortly after the last MS update of August. The odd thing started about that time the dvd burner started reading certain disks that I burned on Dynex media burned with Nero 8.3.13.0 as blank disks. I never burned a coaster on Dynex, for cheap media I thought it was great. I did a complete clean install of xpsp2. Inserted some of these Dynex disks and the burner was able to read them all. Did Ms update to xpsp3 and all the current patches and hot fixes. Same thing as originally, on certain disks if I place a disk in the burner it can read and quickly place one of the unreadable disks it will read it. With others both liteons see a blnk disk. Well by the looks of it it is something in the last patch update that is causing this. In the devicemanager everthing is aces. Any disks it burns now work just fine. I'm ordering a pair of plextor burners hopefully it will be able to read the disks. Anyone have any clues as to what might be doing this?

Firstly using system restore is not an option. Thanks for your replies, I put in the old board and and everything was working as it should be with the same cable and 2 dvdr's set up. The master slave were properly setup. On the new board I ran Vcomm fix it utilities hardware diagnostics and it found problems with the onboard nic, it couldn't be pinged. I thought that I mentioned but I guess I didn't that on the local area connection I was getting low connectivity / no connectivity error messages. I tried updating the bios and it ran even worse it took about ninety minuites to shut down. I returned the board. The only thing I had to do was plug in the ide cable and power24x4 cables those were the only out side of the board besides the cpu and ram. It's the board. The more onboard stuff the more chances failure.

I was doing a search under remove hardware icon disappeared and for a solution there was create a shortcut for: %windir%\system32\RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll to bring up the window. I remember that the hard drive was listed in the hardware devices box. In my case it no longer is. I suspect this why the remove hardware icon isn't loading up at startup. I ran the western digital utilities smart test which there were no errors and the disk is running quitely and quite cool as a matter of fact at 29c. HDTune on the other hand is showing some (BE) (unkown attribute) as failed and can't get any information as to what that is. Of all the different smart software tests programs I ran (extended testing) hdtune is the only one showing a failed flag. Is the fact that the remove hardware icon anything to worry about?

In the device manager when got to IDE ATAPI controllers I see double listings For the primary, secondary and Standard But dual pci... channels. In the primary ide channel the first occurance gives dma if available. The second primary ide channel pio only. If I switch to dma to the second the dvdrom drive freezes up. The dvdrom drives worked with out a hitch on the last board (asus a8n5x) I used. If I keep it as is I get power interupt spikes that take 50 percent of the cpu processing. If I deleted all the IDE ATA/Atapi controllers would windows set up new ones? Or is this a problem with the board? There is only one ide connector on this board and no secondary connector. I reinstalled the os 3 times and the same thing occurred all three times. The local area connection is also not being assigned an address so I keep getting the limited or low connectivity icon in the tray. Thanks in advance. I deleted all the above mentioned ide drivers and the same occurred. The 2 dvd rom drives will not work if dma is activated. I just get a lot of power interrupt spikes when other software runs or starts up such as Thunderbird, Sami Tolvanen's eraser or Disk Explorer Profressional 3 also. These sort of spikes didn't occur at this level on the last board. If I'm running an mp3 file the sound starts to stutter during these interrupts. This is also my first dual core processor in the task manager cpu history one graph per cpu or the combine setting I am seeing the same graphs shoulden't there be two in the per cpu setting? TIA

I'm changing motherboards in a nutshell I am going from nvidia to ati/amd. What I'd like to do intially is not do a clean install but a repair installation and get things up and running as quickly as possible. Do I need to remove nvidia video, realteak audio (older ac97 / Realtek ALC850), and the ethernet drivers before I reinstall xpsp3. The only similar onboard components are the realtek audio which is the Realtek ALC1200 chipset. Thanks in advance.

I was doimg a search on how to install a sata optical drive and really didn't find much. What do you do to install one? It's not like ide where there's a master/slave. Do you plug in the optical drive in the sata 1 slot for the primary boot and hd in the second slot? Or does it matter. Thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone! 1066MHz DDR2 will work with AM2+, I'm getting AM2 cpu. Asus and both also the MSI site for the previous board were recommending cl6 with that CPU. This is all within my budget. I don't want to start nickel and diming myself to death. You know for twenty bucks more... next thing you know there's another 2 bills tagged on. Thanks again puntoMX, crahak and starcraftmaster!

I really don't need the most current. This is a short term solution for me. I plan to build something else this summer. This board is about to go and I'm looking for a quick fix. If you wear surgical gloves (which insulate perfectly and greatly improve the ability to pick up small parts) when handling comp hardware there are never any problems. At least I haven't had any. I just did a clean install of xpsp3. Prior to the reinstall out of the blue the remove hardware icon disapearred and blinks on and of causing the mouse light (ms optical wheel mouse) to shut of then on. The remove hardware button doesn't startup in the notification tray. Prior to the reinstall I was geting a usb malfunction message which no longer appeares and now a found new hardware but that it wasn't installed correctly or usb device not recognized. When the light goes off on the mouse I get the chiming sound when a usb printer is turned off. I figured this out there are two files and A set of registry keys to remove. I reistalled my os earlier today and connectivity wise everthing worked fine. I Decided to reistall xp a second time with a more current nlited disk. Nothing but a local network connection and in the network set up I cannot get the dsl name and password to connect to set up a connection. I used a different nic to connect. No matter what xp install disk I use even the a non nlited disk I can not connect with the a8n5x/realtec rtl8139 nic. Whats happening here. How can I fix this? TIA added I see that in the device manager I'm getting qustion marks in the "other devices": other pci bridge device, pci memory controller, sm bus cintroller. I installed all drivers that came with the board.

Are you running Agnitum Outpost firewall? They are always getting these Driver_IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL with multiple issues.

Every so often I try reinstalling ie7 and tried again on a newly built pc. The same problems occured, that is every time I start up a program that has the ability to connect to the internet the connection window appears even though there is a connection present. Closing the window disconnects the dsl service. I looked at the MS news groups and the only solution they give is to set all the programs individually to a "assume connected to..." setting. There was rollup this month, has this been fixed in that patch? Or does anyone know of any work around other than the ms news group solution. Secondly rolling back to ie6 breaks the ability to read *.chm files. I get a blank page which can only be fixed by a repair installation of xp. tia
