  1. Ach, Did an install on a clean XP machine. I just got the serial message again, and once again, I just hit "Cancel". Everything works on first run. No probs whatsoever. I wish I could be more help, but for me it just works. Thx for all your hard work!!
  2. Useful info, Martin. I use Foxit myself, and I also install using a SFX that I picked up somewhere off the web. (I think I pulled it from an addon at nLite.) I'm sure it'll come in handy. BTW, stop kissin' Xable's butt. He makes a great Update Pack, no doubt. But seriously, sometimes the way you gush over there makes me think you wanna be his girlfriend or somethin'!
  3. @Inferi0r This installer is made using InnoSetup. The generic switches for Inno should work just fine: http://unattended.sourceforge.net/installers.php#inno You can also check the very first page of this thread for more detailed instructions.
  4. Nice one, Ach!! This one hardly pauses at all towards the end!! Everything works fine, same as the other releases. And it still saves my "setup" preferences from previous install. I clicked "Back" and "Next" all the way through 3 times. No problems. (Installed on top of RC2) As for the Lite version... maybe I'll test it. But I doubt it. All I use is Micro. I should be doing a fresh install this weekend sometime, and will test RC3 on that system as well. Will keep you posted.
  5. I myself remove the Windows sounds since I don't use them. I use an addon that has 2 Vista sound schemes (RC2 and RTM). No problems for me.
  6. You might also wanna check your RAM. Bad memory is notorious for causing copy errors on XP cd's. MemTest is a program I've used often to check RAM, and has worked pretty well for me. Unlike MemTest86, you don't need to burn it to a bootable CD. You can run it under Windows. And always test your ISO's by mounting them to VMware first. You can save yourself alot of "silver beer coasters" that way.
  7. @Ach, No redrawn window problems. Just the script. I know this is normal, and that the script has to be done this way. I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to give you feedback just in case it's not working as expected. And so far, it seems to be working fine... well, for me at least. When I get around to reformatting my other machine, I'll post how it goes installing Nero on that one as well.
  8. @Smash I personally recommend you try Ricktendo's. I've used it ever since he took it over, and it works like a charm! Plus, Rick updates it every month with the latest updates already included. PS: Smash, what VisualStyle/WindowsBlind theme are you using in that first screenshot? It's pretty slick.
  9. @nlitened This latest Nero Micro behaves just as normal Nero 7 Full would, except for activation errors. In fact, I have a sneaky suspicion that Ahead is purposely making setupx more and more complicated in order to prevent us from making Lite and Micro. I saw someone make a switchless installer by using msistub and keytotime's tutorial. You can probably do it the same way. I'll let Acheron take it from here, as I'm sure he can give you better instructions. Ach, I just installed Nero 7 Lite 7.0.10.1 RC2 (Micro) on top of previous build. Still hangs towards the end (as is to be expected with all the scripts needed for setupx), but the good news is that it didn't give me any pop-up messages or error warnings. Also, I think you'll be pleased to know that the installer remembered all my previous settings: Serial number, custom installation, and all 3 checkboxes were already done for me. All I had to do was hit "NEXT". I have to reformat another PC later on today, so I'll have a chance to test it on a FRESH installation for ya, and post the results. But so far, it looks about as good as it can get. (Too bad we can't just cheat an' slip in a valid serial during install, huh? )
  10. Ok, just installed it. Same as before. The installation kinda hangs at the end. It looks like an AutoIt scripts hits at the end, cuz I see a dialogue box pop up for a split second. I still get the "Your serial number supports more features, would you like to upgrade.... blah, blah" message. Oh well. Nothing's perfect. BTW, (if I havent' mentioned it before) thanks for changing the desktop icon back to accurately reflect NeroExpress. Good job!!
  11. I just made a move recently, which is why I haven't replied. I'm downloading 7.10.1.0 right now and will post shortly on how it went. Acheron... why MegaUpload?? I understand you prolly wanna save bandwidth, or maybe don't want to get into any legal probs with Ahead. But if that's the case, my I suggest these upload sites instead: DivShare MiHD eSnips I've used these in the past for various reasons, and IMHO are much better than Crapidshare or MegaCrapload. Just a suggestion. Also, I know sometimes people take a while to beta test. Some of us have real jobs (yourself included, I'm sure). We will get back to ya, just have patience. This is one of the best projects going on at MSFN right now, and it's my sincerest hope that it continues to move forward. PS: I think maybe you should start a new topic, since Major started this one with 7960, at no one has seen him for awhile....
  12. @0d14r3 Hey, those are some sweet icons!! I found some good icons before... I think from YellowIcon. There aren't very many that have XP alpha-blending. Those are nice! Thx for the link.
  13. Nice stuff, Shark! I prefer Foxit, but I have a few customers who need Adobe for online forms and such. This fits the bill perfectly. It runs almost as fast as Foxit, actually, except it takes up alot more hard drive space. But it also has the extra functionality I need. (Now, if I could just get a Spanish Extreme version... )
  14. I've looked around myself. All I've found are crappy Win98 styled versions, nothing worth mentioning. Sorry.
  15. If anyone else is trying this, here's a little tip for ya all: I couldn't find the XP drivers ANYWHERE for Acer laptops with Vista pre-installed. Finally, I found them... at Acer's european site!! My guess is that Microsoft can strong-arm Acer not to support XP in their newer laptops here in the states, but in Europe (where they're constantly getting slapped with anti-trust lawsuits), they had to be more XP-friendly. Remember that Europe released the Windows XP-N version, too. Link: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html Hope it helps someone reverting their Vista-installed Acer laptop back to XP.
  16. Hi guys. I just made myself a switchless installer that seems to work pretty well, and installs fast. I Googled alot, then figured this out: 1) Download Google Earth, obviously. 2) Install using the "/a" switch (administrative install). It will ask you where you want the files to go. I suggest "C:\GE4", but it doesn't matter. Just remember where they went. 3) Go to the folder. You'll see an .msi file, and a folder named "program files". Use 7zip to archive the folder, the .msi, and msistub. 4) Now, just make a 7zip Self-Extracting Installer like you normally do. Here's keytotome's tutorial which will fill in the blanks for me: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=51508 Hope that helps you guys out.
  17. @Acheron UPDATE I just installed 7.10.1.0 on a clean install of Windows... Got the same "Upgrade" message (using a Premium Nero key). I just hit "Cancel", after which I got a stop/error message, but it disappeared so quickly I didn't have time to read it. No biggie, though. On first run, everything works. PS: Couldn't you make Nero Micro 7.10.1.0 activate the same way your 7.7.5.1 did? Might not be as correct as we'd like, but it didn't give me that "Upgrade" message.
  18. 0.2 megs? Geez, that much? Do it!! Personally, I don't know how you figured out all that Nero ProductSetup stuff. I mean, making an Inno package using your SDK (or Major's) is pretty straight-forward. No programming necessary. But the in's and out's of Nero activation are just WAY too complex. I realize that Ahead prolly set things up that way on purpose to thwart hackers (and maybe even to prevent projects like NeroMicro), but I think perhaps it is a little over-zealous (i.e., DRM, aggressive Sony protection schemes, trigger-happy/false-positive antivirus apps, etc, etc) Well, it's WAY over my head. But if you wanna explain Nero's activation process more clearly to us in a PDF or something, Ach, well then I'm ALL EARS.
  19. @mikesw Did you try the same thing with nLite 1.3.5? Did it work? That way we can determine whether this is a "beta" problem, or something else entirely.
  20. And you used the same "Unattended" settings both times? Weird. Can you post your INI files? Both the one that DIDN'T work, and the one that DID (without playing with services)? Maybe we can track down what happened.

    windows update

Oooooooooh, that's a good question!! I'm assuming you mean to say, "Is there a way to keep Windows Update from installing (or showing as an option to install) the old MSN Messenger 4.7 when I've removed it with nLite?" Well, the simple answer is "Yes, don't remove it with nLite." But seriously, no I don't think there is. Maybe someone could come up with an addon to trick WU into thinking you have it installed when you don't. I always remove MSN 4.7 from my XP, and add Windows Live Messenger 8 onto it. But for some dumb reason, WU still lists it as an Optional Update. How retarded!!
  22. Yeah, if you're gonna be using this in an office or something, AND you expect support, well.... I'd consider a HUGE donation if I were you. Ummm... and prolly make sure nuhi knows about it as well, and OK's it.
  23. I do the same thing as you; in fact, I take it one step further: I actually remove services in the Remove Components section. Although this is considered a "little risky", I never experienced a problem. (Knock on wood.) To be honest, it sounds to me like the problem you're experiencing is due to the "Unattended" settings you used, not "Services". I suggest double-checking your Unattended section. If that doesn't work, post back (and attach your INI file so we can see exactly what settings you used.)
  24. I had a similar problem on a previously nLite'd disk. Did you check the option to disable SFC in "Options"? If not, you'll get that. It's a by-product of Windows trying to save itself from being corrupted.
