  1. All cards use same driver package.

You can download the driver and check Nvagp.inf(U.S. English version) or Nvaml.inf(International version) for information.

    For example:

    [strings]

    NVIDIA&DEV_0221.DeviceDesc="NVIDIA GeForce 6200"

    NVIDIA&DEV_00F1.DeviceDesc="NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT"

    NVIDIA&DEV_00F3.DeviceDesc="NVIDIA GeForce 6200"

    NVIDIA&DEV_00FB.DeviceDesc="NVIDIA GeForce PCX 5900"

"00Fx" means the product uses BR02 bridge chip.

Because NV43 is a native PCI-E chip, that means the products should be GeForce 6600GT(NV43) and GeForce 6200(NV43) with AGP interface.

NV35 is a native AGP chip, so it should be GeForce PCX 5900 with PCI-E interface.

I guess "0221" should be NV44(with Turbo Catche technology) relative.

According to the statement from NVIDIA, Turbo Catche technology is only available for products with PCI-E interface.

Under Win98, GeForce6 with PCI-E interface are not supported by NVIDIA, so I think it should be GeForce 6200(NV44a) with AGP interface.

NV44 supports Turbo Catche, while NV44a doesn't support Turbo Catche.

AFAIK, NV44(with Turbo Catch technology) may not work properly in Win98.

However, I don't know if NV43(PCI-E interface) or NV44/NV44a are usable.

  2. I will suggest you trying SiL3112 instead of ICH5R for Win98se SATA support, or remapping SATA port 0 to other IDE channel in BIOS.

You can also enable both PATA and SATA in ICH5R, then let WinXP handle SATA HDD with NTFS format.

Win98se may not be compatible with Enhanced mode(allowing 4 PATA devices and 2 SATA devices to be used) in ICH5R.

  3. Some good useful information here on the ATI front, thanks. I'm still not sure on the Nvidia side though as to how far up on their graphics cards one can go and with what drivers. Anyone got faster cards than 6200 working reliably under 9x? models after

6800GT(nv40, AGP) also works under Win98se.

    I am sure it works with GA-7S748-L(SIS748 + SIS963L) and GA-K8U-939(ULi M1689).

If you want better dx9.0c support, you will need unstable forceware 81.xx for better performance.

The problem is, most dx9.0c games do not support Win98/me :(

(Since dx9.0c, MS updates directx and SDK every 2 months, but only the first edition of dx9.0c SDK supports Win98/me officially)

When you play old games, old forceware 6x.xx are stable than 81.xx.

But 6 series never beat FX series on backward compatibility

Compared with FX series, the advantage of 6 series should be better 16x FSAA performance.

(With forceware 56.64, you can also enable OpenGL 16x FSAA support for FX series with Rivatuner)

  4. What's wrong here!?

U can see that there isn't optical devices.

    1is8.th.jpg2hw6.th.jpg

What I need to do?Does anybody know?

I would like to have 98se on this PC!!!

You have to solve the IDE controller problem first.

It is weird that M5229 IDE controller does not work properly.

If you need the driver, you can find it from Win98se install CD.

Motherboard resources also conflicts, you should assign it manually to avoid the problem.

  5. I have 2 DVD burners but when install 98SE there is not any optical drive into my OS.Why? ***

GraphicCard is amazing because I use 128MB of ram and it work on 400MHz.

SouthBridge Drivers can't find for 98SE,any help please!!! ***

    Marvel Lan Work!

    SoundCard 7.1 can't use,any help!!!! :hello:

ULi doesn't complete the driver for southbridge M1573, so there is no driver for M5287 SATA controller under Win98SE.

You can just install the WinXP(i386) M5287 driver manually from ULi Integrated 220, and the yellow question mark should disappear.

(Anyway, M5287 SATA controller will not work  )

PATA controller should be supported by Win98SE and identified as "ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE controller".

But I am not sure if there is any problem with DVD burner and the board.

Latest Realtek AC'97 driver may not support ALC880. Because ALC880 is HD Audio Codec.

You can try old CNQ_1_0_8_1.EXE for CNQ support.

  6. SATA shouldn't need a different driver, ESDI_506.PDR should work fine since SATA is supposed to be identical to IDE at the software interface.

On some boards(ex: GA-K8A480M-9) , there is no PATA compatible mode for SATA controller in BIOS.

So ESDI_506.PDR does not work on SATA HDD, and you can't see SATA HDD in device manager.

Besides, SATA HDD will be forced to work at MS-DOS compatibility mode.

  7. Upon 1st Reboot, winME installed Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) and the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter for the secondary Monitor.

Well, since one of your members 've provided a walkthrough, I have done everything the same way. The only thing I'm not shure is which WDM version driver should I use.

I've already downloaded the winME 6.2beta and tryied with no success.

Also I can see the 2 Interfaces of X850XT in Device Manager, along with a Yellow Exlamation Mark next to them.

I only have X850XT PCI-E and X800pro AGP(R420), so my experience may not work for you.

When I installed CATALYST 6.2 for X850XT PCI-E on GA-K8A480M-9(ATI RS480 + Uli M1573), manually update resulted in an installation failure after reboot, just like what you encountered.

I tried to install the driver by running Setup.exe in subfolder "6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314\Driver", and I failed again.

Finally I let CATALYST 6.2 handle the installation and completed without any problem.

I need to install CATALYST 6.2 first before downgrading driver.

If I install CATALYST 5 directly, an error message appears when entering Win98se normal mode, and Win98se stops working.

I also use X800pro AGP(R420), but it works well with CATALYST 4.11~6.2.

    Compared with X800pro AGP(R420), the installation of X850XT PCI-E is troublesome :}

Besides, ATI supports R481 since CATALYST 6.2, and R480 since CATALYST 5.2.

That means X850XT AGP may have more unknown compatibility problems than PCI-E ones.

  8. It's weird your USB 2 doesn't work. I use Uli's drivers on my mobo and they work perfectly under Win98. (though it's not the same chipset...)

Uli USB 2.0 driver works on GA-K8U-939(M1689 chipset).

    Since NVIDIA acquires Uli, I guess they will never fix the USB 2.0 problem for Win9x/me :}

  9. The Audigy2 does not have a 9x driver - nor does the audigy 1. How did you make the card work (if you did at all)?

Original Audigy 2 has both VXD and WDM driver for Win9x/me.

You can find the driver from its' driver cd, not from CREATIVE official site.

According to the statement from CREATIVE, even Audigy 2 ZS supports Win9x/me, but I don't know if there is any VXD driver for Audigy 2 ZS, since VXD driver is stable than WDM driver.

However, not all products of Audigy series support Win9x/me.

For example, Audigy4, Audigy 2 ZS notebook and Audigy Value(Audigy SE) do not support Win9x/me.

I guess new X-Fi series should not be able to support Win9x/me.

Anyway, it is necessary to check the package first for the statement about Win9x/me support.

  10. x800 are supported but at beta stage and it's not clear but I think only AGP cards are supported.

Both AGP and PCI-E cards are supported.

I built a new pc with Opteron 154. X850XT, Audigy2, and GA-K8A480M-9(ATI RS480 + Uli M1573), it is surprising that X850XT works without major problem.

X800pro AGP works with older CATALYST, but it is necessary to install CATALYST 6.2 for X850XT PCI-E before downgrading driver.

However, Uli M1573 does not support SATA, because Uli didn't complete win98/me driver for M1573 (M5287 SATA Controller).

Besides, all USB devices(floppy, flash disk) disappear after installing Uli USB 2.0 driver.

Switching to Orangeware driver and USB 2.0 devices disappear, so finally I gave up
