  1. Does this addon really install all three versions of the .NET Framework? Cool! After updating the addon with the Service Pack 1 for .NET 1.1, this addon will be perfect! Thanks for your hard work.

um... you can't update it with Service Pack 1 for .NET 1.1, as I just said. At least, Windows isn't aware you've done so even if the patch works.

  2. First thing - turn off indexing on that disk. Right click on the disk icon in Explorer and choose Properties. then uncheck the box at the bottom where it says, "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file seaching". That may not be the onoly thing, but it is one of them.

Second, if you are using Sysmantec AV Corp, the newer versions of that have an automatic scan on start up. If you have that, you can delete it. It's a good idea in a business, but a pain at home. [edit: I see you have AVG.]

Third, update to Adobe Reader 8 and you might consider the lite edition.

Fourth, put your pagefile on another partition, or even another disk.

I don't see anything right off the bat which might cause that kind of thrashing and I don't think it has to do directly with nLite itself. I see you've got AVG, so I'd check for a start up scan of some kind. Also, check what services are starting up with your Startup Monitor. You may find the culprit there.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. It's much appreciated.

The problem here is that I have used this nLited disc on two powerful computers (one a brand new Intel Core 2 Duo machine) and both exhibit the same thrashing around for the first five minutes after logging in, and then settle down and are really zippy! The disc is not fragmented so I am thinking it is an error with one of the addon packs I've added. I do need to replace the version of Reader I am using with 8 - but other than that I am at a loss as to know what to do. I would also like to replace the version of iTunes I used because when Apple tried to update it (reported to have worked) it now won't open at all.

Any further ideas? I can't turn off drive indexing because I don't have the option or text at all to do so.

  3. hmmm...there's no virus scan running, because that was disabled. Registry shouldn't be fragmented (it's just been installed!).

I'm posting my nlite config file. Any help would be welcomed!

Can also post Windows task manager if that would help?

  4. Hi!

I would really appreciate it if anyone could offer an explanation or a way of discovering why my computer's hard disk goes mad for about three minutes post-boot up on an nLited XP disc?

In Windows Task Manager the 'System Idle Process' is at 98% CPU usage or thereabouts and remains there during and after the blitz.

I could post my INI boot config file?

    Thanks!

  5. Or just integrate this registry fix:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ico]
    @="icofile"
    "PerceivedType"="image"
    "Content Type"="image/x-icon"

Thanks! That did the trick! Is there a better solution for use with nLite? Perhaps an addon release that doesn't do this in the first place?

    Thanks again

  6. Thank you! Sounds perfect - but your link doesn't seem to work and I can't find the destination using forum search. I also don't know how to integrate registry fixes.

1 - is there a better release I should be using - one that doesn't do this?

2 - what else is affected? just user accounts?

  7. Hi,

Two of my nLite created discs, on two seperate computers, have hung at 33% at the installing devices stage. If I then force reboot, the installer is able to pick up where it left off, only this time complete.

I wonder if this is because I have a Mac formatted external HDD plugged in via FireWire?

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

  8. Hi

When I go into User Accounts, I am presented with the following iconless menu options.

I am running XPize via an nLite XP disc and using the Luna Royale Theme, and one of my addons is an IE7 release. Can post my config script if necessary.

    post-117347-1176762722_thumb.png

  9. Hi chaps,

Having great fun with nlite (although it is such a time consuming process, I leave it chugging overnight!). Got some questions for you.

    1) In trying to integrate XPize using an nLite addon, I've noticed that the nLite XPize doesn't seem to modify the login screen and doesn't seem to include TabSwitchXP!

    2) I'm getting an error about Cmdow when integrating .NET as an nLite addon - how (in simple, clear terms) can I avoid this, my babies?

    3) Can I:

silently install Office 2003 with nLite

silently install iTunes 7 with nLite

    Loves,

    H

  10. Good news - of sorts!

Now NONE of my XP discs load as normal, even the original disc I used as my nLite source which has worked flawlessly time and time again!

Hmmm...guess I need to erase everything on the drive and start again! If anyone has any insight as to how this could happen I'd be interested to hear about it, because it sounds like something on the HDD is messing with the installation of Windows.

    Hector's solved it my babies:

I had a USB stick plugged in. Only noticed when it showed up as a device in gParted.

As for why that would cause Windows to hang, I don't know. ey??!?!?!!?

  11. Hi chaps,

I've successfully created my first bootable XP SP2 nLite DVD. It's great. I've got quetions, though!! hahaha woo lol.

    1) Will most computers accept a boot DVD (vs a boot CD)? Is it true to say that if it can boot from CD, and the drive is a DVD drive, it will be able to boot from DVD?

    2) I seem to have managed to create one coaster (my most recent DVD): when I try to boot from it, I get 'checking hardware configuration' but then it doesn't move beyond the blue screen for Windows setup, where normally you'd be asked about F6 for RAID etc. Any ideas?

    Loves from Barbados,

    H

  12. Hi there,

I'm currently playing around with unattended installations and nlite. I think it's peachy.

However, for it to be any use to me in my job as a techie guy who repairs people's computers, I really need to be able to create a master disc for use in any client's machine. Is there any way I can create an unattended install using my product key and then change it to theirs when it's done? Does this make sense?
