  1. Would just like a few people's opinions. Have been trying to set up roaming profiles. I have set up default user etc and got the desktop and apps configured how I want. I am getting confused by the share level permissions and ntfs permissions, although thats not my concern regarding this. I essentially suggested Roaming Profiles to my organisation so I could centralise backups as when I arrived people had to manually copy folders into a shared drive on the network, which is a pain and not exactly efficient. Anyway I was reading about folder redirection and found it very useful and set it up as specified in ms documentation. My main question is now peoples desktops and my documents are getting backed up are roaming profiles worth all the hassle? I would just like to know what other companies in relations to backing up people's work. Thanks
  2. My boss has a niggling bug which is annoying regarding the 'advanced find' facility in Outlook 2003. When he does a search for emails and it displays a list of them, the fields that get displayed above the emails does not show the 'to' field, which he wants as he has other peoples pst files on his machine. Whenever he starts a new search he has to constantly select the 'to' field when a list of emails are displayed. I would've thought that any changes you made from the previous search would've saved but alas they don't. Does anyone know of a way around this? as you can see not a major problem but if it makes my boss happy it makes me happy. Thanks in advance for any help. Mail me if you do not understand the problem and would like me to elaborate.
  3. Simple questions, when creating an RIS image, is it possible to configure a laptop with all the correct configurations and install the relevant programs, or is it preferable to get a program like Nortons Ghost. I only have 17 clients, but setting one up from scratch the way management want me to, takes a good 5-6 hours. They don't mind forking out for the most efficient product. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Hi, I am having a problem whereby I am trying to access another machine by: \\comp_name\c$ When I do so, it asks me to log in as a local administrator and asks for a password, which the previous person did not leave me. However, I can access it via the \\192.168.0.7\C$ perfectly. I have been told it is a possible DNS issue. I have used NSLookup on the ip address and it points to the correct machine. I have also used NSLookup on the machine and it points to the correct IP address. Can someone please help me as its annoying me. Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks We are thinking of purchasing Exchange Server soon, will this remedy the problem?
  6. Hi, I am having a problem with accessing my pst file when I am using my laptop away from the network. Currently, the pst file has been relocated to a folder in My Documents, which in turn is being saved to directly to a network share for backup purposes. This works fine when my machine is attached to the network. However, when I take it off I get an error message saying: "The file \\$share\users work\a user\my documents\outlook\personal folders.pst could not be found" and Outlook will not open. Is there anyway to resolve this without having to move to the local machine. Thanks for any help.
