  1. It's a USB HDD (IDE - 60GB), the hidden partition is required as part of the GPT standard, but it is usually hidden and not active. The second partition would be the first visible partition, and it would be active
  2. As the thread title says, is it possible to install XP from USB drive partition 2 or above? Basically, I have a GPT/MBR formatted drive, which has a hidden 200MB partition at the beginning, so I can only stick XP on partition 2, 3 or 4. Will it actually work, or will I get a STOP 0x7B error right around where it would give the drive/partition list in text mode setup?
  3. I guess there are reasons behind that : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=129454 You mean Setup completes successfully when run from second partition, on USB hard disk or USB stick? Can you share some details about how the disk or stick is partitioned, which partition is active and if you performed any additional steps? Can you share some details about how the disk or stick is partitioned, which partition is active and if you performed any additional steps? I haven't fully tested, but I think it should work. You see, the first partition is a copy of Mac OS X, hacking to run on PC's, then I have XP and Vista sources in the second (active) partition, a blank one then for Windows 7, and the rest of the space for some apps and updates, etc. Also, I'm using a hard drive rather than a pen drive, so I think I shouldn't have the same problem as your link above. I know XP can only see the first partition on USB pen drives, but the same is not true for USB HDD's I think. I'll give it some testing now in a bit
  4. 1. Integrate BTS DP to each of your sources 2. Run WinSetupFromUSB and put each of the sources on the USB stick. To put the second source just run it again and select the new source then follow the prompts when existing setup is found. The program will rename each of the BTS folders, amending presetup.cmd in each source with the new location, apart from the other changes. 3. If your sources use the same DP then all they should be able to share a single BTS folder to save space- leave one only and amend each presetup.cmd file with the name of the folder. Presetup.cmd is located in ~LS\I386\. Another way around when using NTFS on the USB stick, which is preferred for speed anyway, is to use hard links, which will save space from the duplicate files in xp sources as well, not only from the duplicates in BTS folder. Use the included \files\tools\DFHL.exe for the purpose. This way you won't have to edit presetup.cmd files and play with BTS folders either. http://www.jensscheffler.de/dfhl_en.html Reminder- to avoid file deletions on USB stick during setup you should be using XP 32bits sources with SP2 or SP3 integrated. In all other cases some files will be deleted during Text mode phase and you would need to synchronize the source after setup. If you need regularly to install Windows versions different than the mentioned above, you may be better of using this approach: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=121446 1. I actually avoided WinSetupfromUSB, cause I wanted to put the files on a particular partition (partition 2) and last time I tried your program, it couldn't do that. Anyway, I figured it out in the end, I just integrated the driverpacks into each of my windows xp sources, then I think I set Multi_boot.ini as the ini file. XX_Content as the content folder, then I just ran through USB_Multiboot_10 6 times, it renamed the sources automatically, and since it copies the same driverpacks to the same location eahc time, it just ignored the existing files after the first copy. Anyway, it's all working perfectly now, driverpacks included
  5. Hi all, I'm making a multi-boot USB drive with the USB_Multiboot_10.cmd method, and following the multiple XP instructions here. I'm adding XP Home Retail, Home OEM, Pro retail, Pro OEM, Pro Corp & MCE, and I just wanted to know how i can add BTS's DriverPacks to this mix. I know there a cmd in the USB_MultiBoot_10 folder then has something to do with that, but I don't quite understand how I'm supposed to use it. I basically want to create the files for the above OS's (nLited to make some tweaks, and add .Net installers from SNMsynth) on my USB Drive, then add the OEM folder for DriverPacks, and tell each of the OS's to use it. PS. I want to go for Attended install, I will be using this usb drive for reinstalling XP on customers PC's/laptop, so will be providing all info during setup, would love to get DriverPacks into the mix to save time looking for drivers online. If anyone can tell me the best approach to achieve this, I'd really appreciate it
  6. Just wondering if anyone has any experience combining this with Basrat's the sneaky's driverpacks. I made an AIO (nlite addon) (1.1, 2.0, 3.0 & 3.5), but only 1.1 installed, think the Driverpacks may be at fault, testing now with JUST 1.1 and 2.0 as T-13 installs
  7. Ok, I have a WIM of my sysprepped XP, and I want to deploy it via CD/DVD. I've read through this guide a few times, and I'm confused by the stuff about using the Panther engine. I just want to deploy my WIM the same way Vista does, IE, pick language, partition, install. Can anyone tell me what I should do?
  8. You actually should be using grub4dos NOT GRUB. However, if either GRUB or grub4dos tell you that there is a problem in the partition table, it is likely .... ....that there is a problem in your partition table. Without knowing what EXACT error you are having in grub4dos and without seeing your partition table it is hard to say. Use beeblebrox: http://students.cs.byu.edu/~codyb/ and post a screenshot of your partition table in it, or the values you see in the 4 partition entries. Are you using Primary partitions or Primary+Volumes in Extended Partition? Post exact error message you get in grub4dos and WHICH grub4dos command "triggers" it. Another thing that might be useful would be the output of a geometry (hdx) command: http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/...ds.htm#geometry jaclaz A] Using grub4dos B] I fixed the bad partition table error by checking the partition table using fdisk in Ubuntu, there was some empty sectors at the end of one partition which was causing the bad partition table error. C] Using 4 Primary partitions Now I'm getting a No GRLDR message instead, and I can't find any info on that with google. The grldr file is on the bootable partition, with the XP setup source files Ok, will try that, thanks
  9. I'm trying to use WinSetupFromUSB to install XP/Vista from my 120GB WD External HDD. I'm trying to set the 120GB HDD as a restore disc for my MSI Wind. I had WinSetupFromUSB working on my pendrive, but with my HDD, it's stopping with a blinking cursor just after I pick the HDD in the BIOS. Anyway, I'm trying to setup the drive like this: 10240MB partition (FAT32) (Active) - WinSetupFromUSB will install XP Pro SP3 (~800MB) & my x86 & x86-64 Vista DVD (8.5GB) and will contain the bootloader. 1536MB partition (FAT32) - Will store the contents of the Ubuntu Linux 8.10 LiveCD (booted from the previous partition) 8706MB partition (Initially FAT32, will be converted to HFS+) - Will store Mac OS X Leopard restore image (Saved using Leopard HD Helper v0.3) (Chain-booted from the first partition with a bootfile called "tboot") The rest of the drive will be made into a partition called Storage which will be NTFS, and store my PortableApps stuff, college work, etc. Is it possible to do this? I have a menu config that should work, I just need to get grub4dos/WinSetupFromUSB to install XP to the first partition. Also, is there any way to fix the bad partition table message GRUB keeps giving me? I tried creating a new table using fdisk in ubuntu, and then made the partitions in XP's Disk Management Console
  10. Ok, I don't know if this is possible or whatever, but basically, here's what I want to know.... At work, we're using Novell's ZenWorks to deploy OS's on new PC's, and what I would like to do, is set-up one 'base' image, that would be unattended & would include Bashrat the Sneaky's driver packs (using NFSLIP, nLite & DriverPacks), so that when the image is rolled out, it will automatically install all the hardware, and a technician can just deploy the apps required for that room, reimage that pc, and roll that out to the rest of the room. It would save a lot of time wasted making an initial XP image, and make's sure there's a standard core to work from. and would have the advantage of less wasted space & clutter on the server cluster Can anyone tell me how I could do something like this?
  11. Here's the deal, I have WinBeta's AIO Vista disc, and my list of Vista keys from TechNet. I want to know if it's possible to set a different script for wach version, say I pick home, it installs with the home key, or the ultimate key for ultimate. If this can be done, please, tell me how!!
