I was having the same problem and the issue seems to be with AVG's email scanning. If you disable the "certify mail" part of it the problems will be fixed. You can read about the solution here: http://www.office12watch.com/html-display-in-outlook-2007/ scroll down to responses #7 & 9 on that post.
