1. I have the exact same problem. I created a brand new configuration copying the files from an original Windows XP SP2 Corporate Edition CD. I didn't integrate SP3, I did integrate RyanVM's update pack, and the one thing that I did differently this time... was integrate Bashrats driver packs. When integrating the RVM's update pack I also did an optimisation of the files. Could this have caused this? 2. Hi Guys, I've created an unattended install of 2003 Server Std that works perfectly on a VM. I wanted to use it with the HP Smart Start CD so it would configure and install drivers but also allow me to customise a few registry entries and provide the WPI menu system for installation of a few extra things. Unfortunately when Smart Start copies the CD to the hard drive I don't think it copies anything other than the I386 directory. So nothing else happens. Is anyone able to help?
3. Apply them here instead - http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/14/ That applies them to all profiles... etc...
4. Hi Guys, Have automated the install off 2003 and I want a menu system to be loaded from the DVD. However, good ol' WPI (which works with XP) doesn't appear to be loaded properly with 2003 Server. It's actually looking to C:\WPI\WPI.htm I've figured out that if the RunWPI.exe is called from C: drive it'll set the runonce entry to C: drive also. And if actually run from D: drive it'll set runonce to D: drive. I could create a runonce reg entry, but does anyone know how I can get this to work properly?
5. The company where I work also uses Notes. We recently upgraded to Notes 8, which has caused me no end of headaches. We have decided not to use the productivity tools, so a basic install suits fine. However, depending on whether I install the application manually, or silently with the /qb argument I get a different outcome. Manually, everything works out well. Sametime integrates with Notes and I'm happy chappy (aside from the time it's taken to sit there and click next) Silently. everything installs, however Sametime doesn't integrate and will only allow you to view the Sametime contacts list once (after user configuration) once closed you can never open it again. If anyone has a solution I'd appreciate it. I'm tired of manually installing everything. I went so far as to search the IBM site for hours to find the Installshield tuner, which I did find. But the options are nothing like those seen when you run the installer. I've uploaded a screenie so you can see what I mean.
6. Aright... figured it out. For anyone else searching for a fix for this... Screensavers and desktop wallpapers are THEMES. Can't believe it's taken me this long to stumble on this. LINK
7. Hi Guys, Has anyone managed to set the default wallpaper and screensaver in their unattended CD without renaming the files to the ones that Windows uses? I've made changes to my registry in the HKLM.reg and HKCU.reg, but Windows seems to revert to the standard bliss.bmp and login.scr anyway. Thing is, I don't want a wallpaper at all for any new user. And I want to set the default screensaver to JKDefrag for every new user. As you can imagine from the name, JKDefrag defrags the hard drives in the system while the machine is in screensaver mode. Here are excerpts from my HKLM.reg and HKCU.reg, imported when cmdlines.txt is actioned. I'm pretty sure they're the right entries, because if I run them from within Windows manually, they set everything perfectly. Perhaps I'm, just setting the wrong area? i.e. these settings are pulled from another section of the registry or a file? Anyway... help... DB
8. I reckon if you spell check your post and make it coherent English, you might get a half decent response.
9. Deleting the wallpaper made no difference, and neither did adding the full screensaver path Any chance you can post your HKLM and HKCU reg files??
10. Haven't tried deleting the wallpaper entry altogether yet, but I will. And as for the screensaver, I added that same screensaver as the default for the logon screen in exactly the same way, it works perfectly. I'll try adding the full path though. Ta DB
11. Hi, Removing the quotes had no effect at all. Any ideas? DB
12. The thing is, the only things that do not take are: 1. The desktop wallpaper and 2. The screensaver The rest of the registry changes actually work. Hence why I'm think it's the Personalized Settings changing them back. If I re-run the HKCU.reg file after the Personalized Settings have taken effect, it works. Anyhow, I'll give it a go and I'll let you know how it turns out. DB
13. Hey nmX.Memnoch, Thanks, I really appreciate your help here! I'm a Help Desk tech for a large organisation that's not doing so well financially, many of the techniques I've been using here (I've been shown by the other staff) are old and time consuming, hence trying to automate everything. I'm aware that many Windows customisations can be done via GPo, but a) I don't have the knowledge to make the changes (yet), and b) we have a Sys Admin who'd get very upset if I started playing with his GPo!!! That said, we don't actually enforce any desktop wallpapers, or screensavers. Is there anyway to set DNS entries in the winnt.sif file? I've managed to turn on NETBIOS, but couldn't do DNS suffixes/appendages. Anyway, here are the registry files you asked for... 14. Aright, I made the necessary changes to my CD, and I was right in what I initially said. Quoting from the timeline in the unattended guide, I'll add in what I think is happening and hopefully someone can help me work around it. » Text-mode Setup 1. Loads Drivers 2. Copies files required for Setup to the Hard Disk 3. Copies the contents of your $OEM$ folders to the Hard Disk 4. Reboots the PC... » GUI-mode Setup 1. DetachedProgram executes from winnt.sif at T-39 stage 2. Installs Devices 3. Installs Network 4. Installs Start Menu Items 5. Registers Components 6. svcpack.inf executes at T-13 minute stage 7. cmdlines.txt executes at T-12 minute stage Imports registry changes here 8. SetupParams executes from winnt.sif at T-9 minute stage 9. Saves Settings 10. Deletes temporary files then reboots... » First Logon 1. Windows logs you in and loads personal settings - Windows doesn't in fact load personal settings, as there aren't any yet. 2. Both GUIRunOnce from winnt.sif and RunOnceEX executes at the same time 3. Windows "Personalizes Settings" for Themes, IE, OE etc etc (Over writing custom registry entries) 4. Desktop and Taskbar loads The problem is, I have a few registry entries that are overwritten when Windows "Personalizes Settings". 1. The Security Centre reports that the Windows Firewall is disabled 2. The desktop wallpaper is set to Bliss.bmp, despite having changed the wallpaper to none 3. The screensaver is changed to the default logon.scr Problem 1 and 2 is livable, I can deal with that. But problem 3 is more critical. I use JKDefrag I've set it as the screensaver for the logon screen, but it doesn't take for newly created users. If someone can solve all three problems, that'd be great. But I'd be happy with some help solving the last one! Cheers! DB EDIT: Figured out the firewall problem I think - That was a missing registry entry!
15. I did add the reg files to cmdlines.txt, but I had the same issue there. It's only stuff like desktop wallpaper, and screensaver and the likes, but I'd rather not have to do anything at all ya know! I'm pretty sure that they're being overwritten just after first logon when IE Personalisation runs and configures desktop settings etc... I'll run a couple more tests and report back here. Thanks!
