  1. if you want to create local accts and join them to groups use the net command - net user and net group to apply group policies, if you mean local polices I just make the changes in the registry. as for small handy scripts, well I like devcon for picky drivers (non Lenovo drivers) and netdom for joining to a domain in a specific OU. Your best bet though is to just post your need and one of us might have a suggestion. -Chris
  2. Hey Guys, regarding the unatend.txt here is what i'm currently doing: i386 (VLK) dir module (copies to c:\i386) in slot1 unatend.txt file module (copies to c:\i386) in slot1 (should be it's own module so you can change it easly) sysprep moduel (copies to c:\i386\sysprep (I think I'll check on monday) slot1 (Kohler told me this is not needed in 3.1 havn't tested that yet though, don't want to change anything when I'm a week away from dedline and still need to image over 500 machines) I'm using the iub 3.0 core files (drive prep, XP Pro partition, and IBM custimization) If I rember correctly, Kohler told me when sysprep runs it stips almost all of your settings in your unatend.txt so you need to use the User Input options in the base map (with the base map open right click on the name of the base map in the left pane and choose settings, there is a User Input tab) for things like computer name, admin password, Person's name, workgroup or domain. as far as the componet options I just made a sysoc to add/remove features. not sure what other settings your looking for but from what I've found over the past few months there is alwasy a way to script it after the os loads ( no guarentee it's and easy script though ) -Chris
  3. Hey Neil, I import the modules in case I ever want' to revert the machine back to the factory state (it leaves our district for some reason). Here is a little bit of info for you on all the modules. If you look in the module dir on your IUB server you will see a bunch of .IMZ files. They are actually just .zip files. If you rename them you can open them up in winzip ect. Now some of them are password protected unfortunetly. I do know the password has been obtained but I'm not sure if one *should* (forum rules ect.) post that info in here. Once you have the module extracted then you can look and see what they did to make it work. This usually isn't that helpfull though as all the drivers they have documented how to do an unattended install on their website (and I usually update to the latest ver). But for some of their oddball modules (we have a program that we use called Vital source, that i needed to do this with) it can be a real time saver. From what i tried it really is not possible to use the OEM windows files to do a truely inattended install, but I found a document from MS that states if you have at least 1 Volume license for XP Pro then you can used that key and files for ALL computers that were shipped w/ XP pro OEM, and not have to purchase additional Licenses. I can send you that link if you would like. sorry if any the info in here was a repeat, I'm just throwing ideas out quickly and trying to get work done at the same time too -Chris jofstegaard, I just had a brainstorm. if one could copy the disk part module and edit the diskpart script ( it's actually a MS command just search for diskpart at microsoft.com) you just might beable to also create the second partition you are looking for. -Chris
  4. jofstegaard, I'm still working on the partition module for you. But i thought about what you said regarding the documentation for IUB. You are definatly right. It was not writen for someone to learn how to use it. The new userguide was just released so you might want to check it out. -Chris
  5. Hey Neil, My inital guess as to why it's ignoring the driver map all together is you selected audit boot for the drivers? I have all my modules install during cusomer first boot. With it now having 10000 install slots (iub 2 only had 9) you can orginize it very nicely. the fisrt issue you had will usually do that if your using the os module built by Lenovo. It uses OEM install files which do not like to install unattended. The last issue w/ your info in the unattended.txt being ignored is commom. This is due to the way it runs sysprep. Dave told me about this when we first purchased IUB. Which info is it dropping on you and maybe I can figure out where to put it. (their are options in the base map properties to customize and even prompt for info) jofstegaard, I'm gonna have to play w/ this one It looks like they use a util called DISKPART to create the partitions during the image. I'm not sure it this util will create and resize partitions with out loosing data and if it will work in windows (or reboot and not break the iub install). Maybe if you can get diskpart to run and change the os boot menu to launch diskpart after a reboot, you could then use IUB to reboot (as to not hoark IUB) run diskpart to change the partitions then reboot which would then load XP and start up IUB again. Like I said just a theroy but if DISKPART can't do it mabey something like partition magic (if it's still around i think it was purchased) or the like. I'll see if I can extract DISKPART and see what it can do. If this doesn't make sence just tell me i'm a dork and I'll reclarify -Chris
  6. Hey DrNewtonD, Seeing as you guys use IUB a lot, what’s the largest number of machines you have had imaging at once? Just curious as I have 550 that I have to get done in a real short time -Chris
  7. hey jofstegaard unless anyone else objects I say post away -Chris
  8. Hey Guys, I work for a k-12 school district and we use it for our 10-12 laptop program (~2000) ThinkPads. I use Ultra Portable for all the laptops and I absolutly love it. There is a large up-front time needed to set it up (I have over 100 custom build modules) but in the long run it's worth it. I'm actually in the middle of imaging about 900 new machines for the new school year. I have not seen any message boards for IUB, the best reference is the Red book writen by Dave Kohler (nice guy we've had him here a few times). I'll be more than willing to offer suggestions and answer questions the best I can. -Chris
