unlink "netbios over tcpip" from DHCP service

hi folks,

I have the following problem:

I always use wwdc.exe to set the netbt service to manual - if I don't activate netbt via "net start netbt" the netbt ports remain closed.

The problem is, on my home computer this works fine (static IP - no DHCP), on my 2 notebooks (DHCP) this doesn't work. I found out that the DHCP service is dependend on netbt and therefore starts the netbt service.

Is there any possibility to unlink netbios over tcpip from the DHCP service?

I hope there is someone around who can help me ... thanks in advance!

Open up your registry and remove "NetBT" (not the rest) from DependOnService under "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp" - can be a bit tricky, it´s a REG_MULTI_SZ value.

hi,

I already thought of that, but then didn't do it because I thought it is just for displaying the dependency in the services windows ...

Now I tried it and I'm very happy with it ... DHCP without netbt really rocks - no problems ;-)
