Virtual Machine for testing unattended CD

dkb

Recommended Posts

hi everyone,

I'm newbie here and got a problem with our last step guide :"Finalising and Testing the CD".

I tried VMWare Workstation to test my ISO file (shot9vc.th.jpg)

,but at the very beginning, the installation program failed to detect a hard drive from my computer (screen5yq.th.jpg)

I don't understand what' wrong....

Might you help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Windows XP cannot detect your VMWare SCSI disk, you will need to download the VMWare SCSI driver from VMWare homepage.

If you choose to configure your Virtual machine with IDE, it will not be a problem.

I know that this driver is available because its also an issue on the VMWare ESX server.

Kind Regards.

EDIT:

I foundt the location for you..

Hi Andersen,

I have configured my floopy using the SCSI Disk Driver "vmscsi-1.2.0.2.flp" (014ft.th.png)

From the start of the installation, I pressed F6 to install the SCSI Driver & RAID... (or something like that), and also the supplementary VMWareSCSI Dirver (I think :} )

But still got the same problem: newpicture9ll.th.jpg

I don't know how to make it work...

Thanks again, prey

Hi!

I just tried it on my own VMWare

Right at the beginning of the blue setup screen press "F6" to specify additional driver.

Later when requested press "S" to specify SCSI drivers.

If the floppy image is loaded in you VMW setup correctly, it will immediately show "VMWare SCSI"

Press Enter, and you will now be able to partition and format you disc(s).

If you are not presented with the above, it could be due to the automated installation process that runs when the CD is Unattended - I have personally seen that before.

Try switching to IDE disc instead, or try to incorporate the VMWare SCSI driver in you ISO, so that it will load automatically.

I f anyone is reading this, and have a suggestion how to do the last part, please post it here.

Again - I DID make it work, so maybe jus try fiddling around with it some more...

Kind Regards.

Yeah, I already finished those steps, but after pressing enter, it still got back to the screen saying "can't detect hard drive...." Does my PC have problem?

Maybe I should change to your method:

but I don't know how..... :(

Thanks for your help

Hello Again.

Switching to IDE is easy.

1. Edit you Virtual machine setting from the main VMW window

2. Remove you present virtual drive

3. Select the "Add" button, and click "Next" at the wizard welcome screen.

4. Select "Hard disk"

5. Create new virtual disk - click "Next"

6. Select "IDE (Recommended)"

7. The rest is just peace of cake... size etc.

Hope this helps you out :)

Kind Regards.
