Astalavista Posted January 21, 2005 Author Posted January 21, 2005 The VP912b completely rounds out Viewsonic’s VP line of monitors, offering gaming ready screens for every size and budget. We’re not sure how Viewsonic managed to beat every other monitor manufacturer to market with a fast 19” LCD panel, but the proof is in the pudding. The Viewsonic VP912b is likely the best price/performance LCD monitor we’ve ever tested. With a 19” diagonal viewing size and a native 1280 x 1024 resolution, it’s big enough to satisfy the needs of the vast majority of gamers, and the price tag is quite reasonable in comparison to other 19” LCD’s on the market. There’s really no reason to look at any other 19” LCD currently out there, since the VP912b will cost just as much but deliver much better performance. Of course, now that the panels are out there, it’s just a matter of time until Viewsonic’s competition will be delivering 19”/12ms displays. Still, Viewsonic is the first, and we will give credit where credit is due.Viewsonic’s choice to use a reflective coating on the LCD panel is the only true variable as we see it, as it’s a feature that people are very adamant about liking or disliking. The panel coating does appear to bring out more vibrant colors from the screen below, but also raises a lot of negatives such as reflectivity and glare, which some people will tolerate less than others. All in all, we see this new coating as a positive, but it’s one of those items that really must be seen in person to be understood correctly. We were very impressed at the overall quality of the screen and bezel, just as we have been in the past with other members of Viewsonic’s VP series. Believe the hype, this is a terrific monitor which we have no qualms about recommending.
