CoffeeFiend Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Weird problem. We bought a pair of Win 2008 Standard keys (legit and all) mainly for usage under vmware, and the install disc won't even take them! All it says is "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted". No other details of any kind. How useless. "Something didn't work, must reboot!". That's got to be one of the most useless error messages I've *ever* encountered.Yet, we can install without a serial, then change the key and activate online no problem! There are no problems with the disc itself, and it's not "the wrong key" either...Looks like it's not just me either. Plenty of such reports on the web.MS needs to get its act together on this one seemingly.
eyeball Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Yeah iv seen this. I had to put my key in during install otherwise it was a no go I agree, it sucks.
cluberti Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Was this MSDN media, or other? I have this problem with all the MSDN 2008 images I've tried, yet the retail ISO I use has no such problems.
CoffeeFiend Posted December 15, 2008 Author Posted December 15, 2008 It was MSDN media indeed. Good to know. Either ways it's installed and all now, but the installer's error message was completely unhelpful.
andyasselin Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 use slmgr -ipk in administrator command prompt ?
