No matter which Windows I install 2000 or XP seems to freeze up

I had XP installed on a computer but when the computer started up it would freeze a tthe loading screen or when is use after loading would freeze and I would have to power down.

I thought it was the HD so I poped in a ME and leave the computer running with a game loading from the CD drive for a couple of days. The computer never frozed once. So I decided to turn off the computer and try another Hard Drive which I installed 98 and then I was going to install 2000.

The 98 istallation went threw with no problems. Then on to the 2000 installation. Where I left the FAT32 since it is only a 4GIG.

The istallation was going threw until it went to the laod screen the same XP/2000 load screen and then FROZED right after trying to configure stuff. Even after I Power Reset the 2000 installation would not get pass the load screen or even when it was about to complete installation it would just sit freeze.

So now I am convinced there is something wrong with the computer and not the Hard Drive of my original XP installation.

I just don't get it where the ME/98 went threw but the XP and 2000 would freeze up a few minutes after laoding windows.

What kinda of problem is this and how do I slove it?

The one of the best resources for troubleshooting tools is Ultimate Boot CD.

That being said, check your memory with Memtest86+. You can be pretty confident that if no errors show up within 5 minutes or so, your RAM is probably ok. If you still suspect problems, let it run for a few hours.

Memory is good to check, but a BIOS upgrade isn't a bad idea either. NT kernel-based OSes will tax the hardware and BIOS much heavier than 9x-based versions of Windows, and a BIOS upgrade can sometimes smooth out issues like this. Since introducing the NT kernel seems to be related to your problems, a BIOS upgrade (to make sure you're running the latest version for your motherboard) is always a good thing when going from 9x to 2000 or XP.
