Ken0ath Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I did a search for "Welcome.exe" & Getting Started" but turned up zero soI thought I'd ask someone...Does anyone here know what file be it inf or whatever, that is responsiblefor the running of the Welcome.exe on the 1st booting of a Windows 2000fresh install...I noticed that is has a link in the tools section of the start menu listedas "Getting Started" The task manager lists it as"Getting Started with Windows 2000"But In searching all the hives & other infs within the CD I can'tfor the life of me find what is responsible for it's running on 1st booting...Thanks in advance...
johnyept Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Please don't beat me up for digging up this topic! I was messing around with Windows 2000 on an old PC and noticed there was no entry on the registry for running "welcome.exe" anywhere, and a Google search only shows this topic without an answer, so... I fired up Process Monitor v2.8 (requires SP4 and Update Rollup 1) to figure out what would change in the system when I unchecked "Show this screen at startup" on the welcome.exe window, and the answer to the 1st post is: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Tips: Show =1 launches welcome.exe, Show = 0 does not launch welcome.exe. 1
