After logging in an account on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, I sometimes and promted with what appears in the attachment to this post. It appears to be a nag to update Adobe Flash componets.

I have checked "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and did not see any entry for an Adobe component.

Also the Startup folder of the Start Menu is empty.

Where does the adobe check for update exist and how may I disable it?

EDIT: Post #4 describes creation of update check startup.

Now I would like to know where is the update check setting stored and how may it be modified without using Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager (post #4)?

I would like to always have update check disabled after new installations of Windows.

I have found the reason for the update prompting on the Adobe Systems Incorporated website, http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation....html#pervasive :

With Flash Player 8, if an update is detected, the Player will schedule the updater application to be launched the next time the users starts up their machine. On startup, the user will be presented with an update dialog.
So it seems like the flash update prompt annoyance occurs due to an automatic update check being scheduled soon after an unauthorized update check.

I found that the offensive behavior may be modified using Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager at:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/document..._manager05.html

By default, the update check is set. By changing an option on Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager, the local behavior of upate check ceases to occur; this implies that a change to a local data occurs.

I would like to always have update check disabled after new installations of Windows. Where is the update check setting stored, and how may it be modified without using above linked Settings Manager?
