mara.colet Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) I have recently added a Windows 2003 Server to my network which is mixed environment of Windows 2000 and 2003 Servers. Each time the server reboots i see an error in the event log:Source: NETLOGONCategory: NoneType: ErrorEvent ID: 5779User: N/AComputer: NDEXCH02Description:The site name for this computer is 'local.ndaviess1'. That site name is not a valid site name. A site name must be a valid DNS label. Rename the site to be a valid name. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.I have only come into this position about a month ago and the gentelman I replaced is deceased so there is not picking his brain about how things were setup or why. I am stumped here and have found only one other person in 2004 that has seen this problem. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance....Mara Edited May 7, 2007 by mara.colet
cluberti Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 What is the FQDN for the domain that the server or workstation belongs to? I know it's complaining because the name it mentions there has no .tld or .local extension, so it is technically an invalid DNS name. What is the domain and NetBIOS name of the domain the machine belongs to?
mara.colet Posted May 7, 2007 Author Posted May 7, 2007 domain is local.ndaviess1 and netbios name is NDCSC...mara
fizban2 Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 if that is the case then the DNS naming convention was setup incorrectly, it should be something like "ndaviess1.local" the DNS name local.ndaviess1.<somethinghere> would specify a child domain the domain ndaviess1.<somethinghere>. it what ever the case there should be something (.com, .edu, .org, etc ) after the ndaviess1
