pecomees Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Dear all, Can someone give me a hint on what's causing the following errors:My customer has build an internal domain with a Windows 2003 domain controller with DNS. Unfortunately he used a public domainname for the internal domain. ("MyCustomer.com") Now, whenever the domain controller is rebooted, 34 similar error messages appear in the system eventlog:Event ID: 5774Source: NETLOGONDescription: The dynamic registration of the record 'DomainDnsZones.MyCustomer.com. 600 IN A 10.0.0.1 failed on the following DNS server: 193.78.240.1. Response code:5 Returned status code 9017I have no idea why this domain controller tries to make registrations on an external DNS server. This external dns server is probably authoritive for the public website which runs (stupid) on the same domainname www.MyCustomer.com, but even so, from an internal perspective this domain controller should not do anything with an external server.Any clues would be welcome! Thanks in advance!pecomees
fizban2 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Most likely he has the external DNS server 193.78.240.1 either listed as a DNS server in his TCP/IP setting on the NIC that connects this server to the Internet, or in his DNS settings he has this DNS server setup as a forward, check those settings and see if they are there, how does he connect to the internet? could you give a quick breakdown?
pecomees Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 The problem is solved. Someone configured TCP/IP to point to the default gateway as primairy DNS server. When I corrected this setting so it points to the dns on the domain controller, the errors stopped showing up.
