max2479 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Hello ALLhave a network with one DC running windows 2000. Would like to promote Windows 2003 as DC.Run adprep /forestprep and /domainprep on Windows2000 before running dcpromo on windows 2003.Windows 2003 server is joined to the domain but gets an error when running dcpromo. The Operation failed because"The Active directory installation Wizard cannot continue because forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using Adprep, see AD help."The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version on this computer".I tried to run it again to prepare the dcpromo and i got this:Running domainprep ...Domain-wide information has already been updated.[status/Consequence]Adprep did not attempt to rerun this operation.I have done this in the past where one DC is 2000 and I was promoting 2003 it worked fine. So it should not be a problem.PLEASE HELP
Stoic Joker Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) Just ran into this one yesterday...I'm assuming the 2k3 server is R2 Correct? You'll need to run the copy of ADprep that is on the Win2k3 R2 CD that has the (other) new for 2003 AD updates.it's in: X:\Cmpnents\R2\AdprepIt'll update AD to version 31, instead of version 30 which is what you probably have now....and no, rerunning it won't brake anything...the rest of yesterday's deployment went perfectly (after I found the right copy of ADprep).
