notsosmart1 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Errors:1. Computer Browser service terminated with the following error: Operation returned because the timeout period expired.2. Fault bucket 127634141 - Faulting application mmc.exe version 5.1.2600.2180 faulting module ntdll.dll version 5.1.2600, fault address 0x00010f29.Ocassionally, when I'm in mmc, the PC notifies me that it has experienced an error and has to shut down. But it only closes mmc and doesn't shut down. I have run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /f.Any suggestions?
cluberti Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Well, if it's crashing in ntdll.dll, then it's crashing when accessing something either in, or through, the kernel. Download autoruns and disable all non-Microsoft items, reboot, and see if the problem still occurs.
notsosmart1 Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 Thanks for the response.Because of my ignorance, I do not understand "download autoruns". Would you please elaborate. FYI, It has never crashed, just closes mmc. Thanks.
cluberti Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 No problem. What I mean, in basic terms, is to visit this page and click the "Download Autoruns" link at the bottom of the page. Once autoruns is downloaded, extract and run "autoruns.exe". Instructions on using autoruns are on the page I linked to, if you need help using it.
notsosmart1 Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Thanks for your understanding and suggestion.I ran autoruns.exe and was overwhelmed with the information. I googled in search of what to do with the information in order to resolve the 2 issues mentioned in my first post. The only thing I found is what not to delete or uncheck (I did delete a task scheduler item that had no program thru Explorer). Now how do I get from having all the information to resolving the issues? Thanks.
cluberti Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 You'll find that under one of the menus at the top, you can hide all Microsoft entries. Do that and click the refresh button, and you'll have a better idea of what to research. You can even try unchecking everything after hiding the Microsoft items (and then rebooting) to see what happens, then start re-checking things a few at a time and restarting to see which ones seem to cause the errors you are seeing.
