LeveL Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 "Control Panel" and "My Computer" are items that do not have any location.Does anyone know the command I could add to a shortcut so it would open these items?I am using bblean (Black Box) and have a few icons set up on the desktop, two I needthere are "Control Panel" and "My Computer" but these items are in 'no mans land' inbetween the Start Menu and the "Programs" folder of the Start Menu! God halp anyonethat accidentally removes these from the Start Menu, where are you meant to look tofind these things?Example:C:\WINDOWS\system32\cpanelOr something but this isn't it - what makes this really annoying is if youlook on the shortcut properties for "Control Panel" and "My Computer"the target field is blank! Why Microsoft, why do you do this?
tap52384 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 (edited) Start --> Run --> "control" brings up the Control Panel.Start --> Run --> "::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}" brings up My Computer. Edited February 26, 2007 by tap52384
LeveL Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 (edited) Thanks, I think I might have worked out a fix.Just put "control" in a BAT file, make it a hidden command window,link to that and do the same with your command for My Computer.Hmmmm, the one for "control" works but not this:::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}Its a shame they never made an "explore" option so you could just have:explore ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} Eeeeeeeek! This DOES WORK....start ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} Edited February 26, 2007 by LeveL
TheFlash428 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 (edited) Not sure if this is an option, but pressing the "Windows Key"+"e" will open Windows Explorer, and from the file menu you can access the control panel and such (which allows access to the right-click menu items for "My Computer").
