LG 16xDVD Dual Layer Burner

I have an LG DVD Burner (16x dual layer) and its not that old. It works very slowly or not at all on vista when burning a cd/dvd. It usually freezes. I contacted LG as on their website some of their burners have firmware upgrades, mine did not. They said that the drive will not work properly unless Microsoft releases drivers for it. Anyone else have a problem or solution for this?
