Vista not saving folder settings?

I also just loaded Vista on my PC (Utlimate Version). I usually deselect "Remember each folder's view settings" so that I can just sort by List on the main directory and it will List for all subdirectories. Always worked fine in XP. But with Vista if I set the main directory to List all the subdirectories are different (I think with Details). But it seems to save it for the directories that I change it to in the future when I go back. It seems like it is doing the "Remember each folder's view settings" even though it is unchecked. If anyone figures it out that would be great.

Also is there anyway to change the columns and have them permantely

stay that way for all sub directories, etc.
