Japanese characters and unicode

I downloaded the fonts to display Japanese characters recently, and it works great in all my files and on webpages.

My problem lies in things like Windows Media Player and a few other programmes that still aren't displaying anything but boxes!

I wouldn't really mind it but nearly all of my music is Japanese and I like to keep it labelled properly.

I have unicode installed already so I know that's not the problem, I was wondering if I've missed something...is the programme on a disk or something to that effect.
