EPIC Serial Communication

Anyone have any experience or know a good tutorial on talking to serial devices using EPIC instuctions?

I am trying to write an application to talk to an EPIC Serial device over USB and though I seem able to write to the device, I am not able to read anything from it and therefore unsure if I am sending the right commands.
