At work I have got Dell Desktop with XP Professional (unplugged Ethernet cable)

Right clickproperties “ Computer Name “ tab.

Full computer name : stgnlog,,,,,,,,

Domain : stgn.global

I tried to log in as standalone machine ( I was not able to login) :

Username : log

Password: log1199

Log on to : STGNLOG (this computer),,,,,,,,,first option,,,,logically this should work

The system could not log you on. Make sure your username and domain are correct then type your password again. Letters in password must be typed using the correct case

When I tried second option (I was able to login) :

Username : log

Password: log1199

Log on to : STGN,,,,,,,,this the name for our domain, keep in mind that Ethernet cable is unplugged

Is the account a local account on the machine itself, or is it an account in your domain?

This is what I aslo tried to invistage, when I checked " My Computer " --> " Manage " --> " Users and Groups " , I could not find that name, then I believed it domain's account

If that's the case, then this is expected behavior. Even if you are not connected to the domain, you still have to choose the domain object in winlogon to log in with that account. When you select the local machine's object, you're telling it to look in the local SAM, and the account won't exist. Since it sounds like your machine is caching your domain logons (and the default is to cache the last 3 logon sessions), you should have no trouble logging into your machine with a domain account even when not connected to the domain.

Again, this is expected behavior - you have to tell your machine this is a (cached) domain account at the winlogon screen, otherwise it won't know what to do.
