PXELinux, PE2.0 and MS TFTPD

Hi JSmith and all of you... I have read through the thread and see that some of you have succeeded in using DHCP and pxelinux (tftpd). I have a Suse Box with tftpboot and pxelinux. I use it to boot a number of different tools like Acronis, and Dos disks... PLEASE help! I have tried all combinations that I can think of to get PE 2.0 to boot. here is my config file:

Ok, the first thing you'll want to do is change the kernel to pxeboot.com - which you'll want to rename to pxeboot.0. If you don't want to hit F12, you can rename the file called pxeboot.n12 to pxeboot.0 and use that.

Are you using the BCD from a Vista install disk or following the manual that has you create your own? I found the manual method to be significantly more complex to do, but it works. using the one from the Vista install CD is easier, but the directory structure must be different.

So let us know what your structure is and what BCD and try that out for the kernel!

Mr Smith... OK.. You have the pxelinux.cfg/default that is loaded by pxelinux.0

can pxelinux.0 load pxeboot.0? I created the BDD using the 1000 steps outlined in the documentation. But I do not think that is gets that far. It never starts booting. When I rename the .com extension to .0 tftp fails. The tftp server is a Suse Linux Ent. 10 box with tftp installed and dhcp.

here is the dhcp conf:

I read something in another post about redirect... is that what oyu are doing? How did you configure this more precicely?

If you used the PXE HowTo from Microsoft's documentation, you will need the following setup:

[tftproot]

bootmgr.exe

pxeboot.0

[tftproot/boot]

BCD

boot.sdi

winpe.wim

[tftproot/boot/fonts]

wgl4_boot.ttf

Thats all needed to boot to Windows PE. (I had set this up today on Windows, just to remember you that the filename case is probably not right)
