snooz Posted September 17, 2003 Author Posted September 17, 2003 Kenneth in your $OEM$ folder you need a cmdlines.txt file. In the cmdlines file for example:[COMMANDS]".\INSTALLS.CMD"In the Installs.cmd file for exmaple:--------------------------------------------------------CLS @echo off ECHO.ECHO Intel Application AcceleratorECHO Please wait... start /wait D:\\Updates\\iaa23_enu\\Setup -s -f1"D:\\Updates\\iaa23_enu\\setup.iss"ECHO Finished...ECHO.regedit /s d:\misc\tweaks\qlb.regExit----------------------------------------------------------You can go one of two ways with the tweak you can either put it in a reg file somewhere else or you can use the posted cmd script within the installs.cmd. To use the cmd script it will look like this:------------------------------------------------------------CLS @echo off ECHO.ECHO Intel Application AcceleratorECHO Please wait... start /wait D:\\Updates\\iaa23_enu\\Setup -s -f1"D:\\Updates\\iaa23_enu\\setup.iss"ECHO Finished...ECHO.ECHO Quick LaunchECHO Please wait...reg load HKU\TempUser "C:\Documents and Settings\Default webmedic Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 does it work just like that or do all the \ marks need ot be repalced and the whole thing put on one line?
snooz Posted September 17, 2003 Author Posted September 17, 2003 It will work in a reg file because at the setup screen we are using the default user ntuser.dat file.regedit /s d:\misc\tweaks\qlb.reg for example. If you dont want to do that then put it in the cmd file like:reg load HKU\TempUser "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\ntuser.dat" for exampleWe have to remove the \ and , because reg command wont work with them. Both work it is a matter of preference. To have another reg file is one more file to worry about I use the reg file because I use the details view and status bar tweak as well. To convert without \ , is a pain and I figure more of those kind of tweaks will come. So just leaving it open for future changes.

kenneth11zz Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Snooz, thanks for re-writing a more thorough guide on this. *hug with a beer for you* From what you are saying, it doesn't matter if you remove the "/" mark or not if you are using the tweak in a registry file, right? The method that you mention in using to load the tweak into the Default User ntuser.dat. Is it possible to import a registry file directly into the Default User ntuser.dat from another user account or adminstrator account when using Windows normally but not during the installation?-Kenneth

I do not know if it is possible.
snooz Posted September 17, 2003 Author Posted September 17, 2003 I am sorry if I have not been clear. There are two different methods to apply this tweak.1) You can use regedit to import a reg file.2) You can use the reg command. The reg command in dos cannot have \ , in it and must be on one line.I have tried both and they work.Does that clear it up kenneth?
kenneth11zz Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Okkie...I'll stick to registry file method. The other method is a bit too mess to play with. By the way, do you know the tweak to save the setting to Control Panel folder, including both the settings to the toolbar and folder view?-Kenneth

Paul 365 Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 There is something i don't quite understand about this.If you are using cmdlines.txt and at that point it is using ntuser.dat as the default user and you can use a reg /s qb.reg to import the exampe given why in the other method do we have to load ntuser.dat into the tempoary hive before we do the reg /addSurly if its using ntuser.dat then we could just do a reg /add without loading and unloading. If thats not the case and we do have to load/unload I can't see how importing a reg file could apply the tweak, as the part of the hive it is ment to adjust has not been loaded.Anyone
GreenMachine Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 I think you are correct: the Default User\NTUSER.DAT hive is already in use, so there is not much sense in loading / unloading it. Snooz seems to concure, as he said he has tried them both, and they both work. I have not tried yet, so I cannot speak from experience. Default User\NTUSER.DAT contains the New User Template, and some things in there will only be used to initialize a new profile. You make the changes there, and when you next create a new user, the changes will be visible. My experience leads me to believe that many explorer settings are saved to the registry just before shutdown / logoff, such as default folder view options, taskbar settings, and who knows what else, thus will always overwrite your changes. For this reason you must load the default hive, make the changes there, and use it as a template. You can get away with making changes during the pre-gui-reboot because the shell (explorer) has not yet been loaded, thus will not save it's settings on exit.
