Hello!

I have a laptop running Windows 2000 Pro. This was on a network and is now a standalone. This problem is when I put a CD in the drive - the light comes on and the troubleshooter tells me it is working properly BUT when I explore or try to access the drive I get the following: 'D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of a I/O Device Error.'

I have removed the driver in System Device Manager and restarted Windows so it is back again but still the same message. The CD is a TEAC CD-W28E CD Writer and DVD reader. It hasn't worked for a while but wasn't a problem while on a network. Now I can't even install the driver for internet access or any programs. The computer tells me it is working properly and will eject ok, so I'm puzzled.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Try to boot from a CD using this CD/DVD reader. If it doesn't boot then it is most likely out of order and you'll need to replace it.
