eggie Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hi,I've had a problem over the last couple of days with my PC kind of hanging every so often. Today it has been coming up with messages about a dodgy sound driver so I figured it was a good excuse to get a new sound card (I've been wanting a new one for a while anyway). This did fix the problem I was just basically curious as to why a sound card driver problem would be causing these kind of problems. If anyone has any ideas it'd be great coz it got me thinking and I can't figure it out.CheersDave
cluberti Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Certain drivers are allowed to run in "ring 0" (where the kernel is running) in Winodws XP - including video and audio drivers. This can cause system sluggishnes or hangs if the driver misbehaves. That's the basic, non-technical explaination .
eggie Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 That'll do me I was just wondering why.Cheers
